EDAn axe bow is basically a wave piercing bow. Instead of riding up and over a wave like a traditional flared bow, it’s designed to slice through it.
On a support vessel that matters for three big reasons.
First, comfort and safety. By cutting through the wave face you get less pitching and less slamming, so the boat stays more level and predictable in rough water.
Second, speed and efficiency. A steadier hull means you can hold your pace without constantly backing off, which usually translates to better fuel economy and a smoother ride at cruise.
Third, deck operations. Support vessels live and die by what happens on deck. When the bow isn’t bouncing and the boat isn’t hobby horsing, you get a more stable working platform for launching and recovering tenders, moving toys, and handling gear.
The tradeoff is that you can take more water over the bow in certain conditions, so the design leans on good drainage, high bulwarks, and smart deck layout to keep things controlled.
