Systemic and pulmonary circulation are the two main pathways of blood flow in the human body. Together, they form a continuous loop that keeps oxygen and nutrients moving. 🔵 Pulmonary Circulation (Heart ↔ Lungs) Purpose: Oxygenate blood (add O₂, remove CO₂) Flow: Right atrium → receives deoxygenated blood from body Right ventricle → pumps blood to lungs Pulmonary arteries → carry deoxygenated blood to lungs Lungs → gas exchange happens (CO₂ out, O₂ in) Pulmonary veins → bring oxygenated blood back Left atrium 👉 Key point: Only circulation where arteries carry deoxygenated blood and veins carry oxygenated blood 🔴 Systemic Circulation (Heart ↔ Body) Purpose: Deliver oxygen & nutrients to tissues Flow: Left atrium → receives oxygenated blood from lungs Left ventricle → pumps blood to body Aorta → distributes blood to all organs Arteries → carry oxygenated blood Capillaries → exchange nutrients, gases, waste Veins → return deoxygenated blood Right atrium #instagram #reelsindia #medreels #studyreels #doctorsofinstagram

Systemic and Pulmonary circulation - The continuous journey of Life through Heart Deoxygenated blood from the legs, internal organs, arms, and head returns to the heart through two great veins - the Inferior Vena Cava from the lower body and the Superior Vena Cava from the upper body - entering the Right Atrium. It flows into the Right Ventricle, which pushes it through the Pulmonary Artery toward the lungs. In the lungs, blood releases carbon dioxide and absorbs fresh oxygen. This “recharged” blood now carries life again. It returns to the heart through the Pulmonary Veins, enters the Left Atrium, and moves into the powerful Left Ventricle - the chamber built to serve the entire body. With a forceful pump, the left ventricle sends this oxygen-rich blood into the Aorta, from where it splits into three great directions: upward to the head and brain, sideways to the arms, and downward to the organs and legs. In the brain, blood sustains thought, memory, and nerve control. In the arms, it powers movement, grip, and work. In the organs and legs, it fuels digestion, balance, walking, and survival. At the tiniest vessels - the capillaries - blood delivers oxygen and glucose, collects waste and carbon dioxide, turns dark again, and begins its return to the heart. This circulation never pauses, because the brain fades within minutes without oxygen, muscles collapse without energy, and organs fail without supply. The heart is the engine. Blood is the carrier. Vessels are the highways of life. . . . . . #BloodFlow #HeartToBody #PulmonaryCirculation #SystemicCirculation #RightAtrium #LeftVentricle #Aorta #VenaCava #OxygenCycle #GasExchange #Capillaries

Comment “Print” to get your printable for Free There are two types of Circulation Pulmonary circulation is a portion of circulation responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood away from the heart, to the lungs and then bringing oxygenated blood back to the heart. Systemic circulation is another portion of circulation where the oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart to every organ and tissue in the body, and deoxygenated blood comes back again to the heart. What helps in circulation? Veins – It supplies deoxygenated blood to the heart via inferior and superior vena cava, eventually draining into the right atrium. Capillaries – They are minuscule, tube-like vessels which form a network between the arteries and veins. Arteries – These are muscular-walled tubes responsible for supplying oxygenated blood away from the heart to all other parts of the body. Every concept of ischemia, angina, and myocardial infarction starts here 👇 🔍 DETAILED BREAKDOWN 1️⃣ Origin Both coronary arteries arise from the ascending aorta via the aortic sinuses: Right Coronary Artery (RCA) → anterior aortic sinus Left Coronary Artery (LCA) → left posterior aortic sinus 2️⃣ Course RCA runs in the right atrioventricular (AV) groove → reaches the crux of the heart LCA has a short trunk → divides into: LAD (Anterior interventricular artery) Circumflex artery → runs in the left AV groove 3️⃣ Branches RCA: SA nodal branch, Right marginal, AV nodal branch, Posterior interventricular artery (PDA) LCA: LAD → diagonal + septal branches Circumflex → obtuse marginal branches 4️⃣ Distribution RCA supplies: Right atrium, right ventricle, SA node (≈60%), AV node, posterior 1/3 of IV septum LCA supplies: Left atrium, left ventricle, anterior 2/3 of IV septum, apex 5️⃣ Clinical Correlation ⚠️ LAD occlusion = “Widow Maker” → large anterior wall infarction ⚠️ RCA occlusion → arrhythmias (SA/AV node involvement) 🫀 Most common vessel affected → LAD 🔄 Coronary arteries are functional end arteries → poor collateral flow 💡 WHY THIS MATTERS If you understand this: ✔ ECG changes make sense ✔ Types of MI become easy ✔ Clinical case solving becomes faster
