Building strong pencil grasp starts with play! From popping bubbles to squishing putty, these fun fine motor activities—Pop It’s, pom-poms with tongs, pegs, Squigz, and Theraputty—are the secret tools OTs use to prepare little hands for writing success. Here's how these simple activities can help: * Pop It’s → Builds finger isolation and control for precise movements. * Pom-poms + Tongs → Strengthens the tripod grasp (thumb, index, middle finger). * Pegs → Improves pinch strength and in-hand manipulation. * Squigz → Develops hand strength and bilateral coordination (both hands working together). * Theraputty → Builds overall hand strength, finger dexterity, and endurance. Save this post for your next play time or therapy session and don't forget to follow along for more tips 😊 #sensiahealth #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #parenting #therapy #childdevelopment #finemotor #pencilgrasp #otforkids #earlylearning #earlychildhoodeducation #teachersofinstagram #preschoolteacher #kindergartenactivities #handwriting #finemotorskills #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning #otactivities #parenttips #earlyintervention #otlove #specialeducation #schoolreadiness

A great activity to work on pre writing skills and fine motor skills! This is also a way to work on what we call “graded force” in the therapy world. Your child will have to determine how much force to place on the utensil to write in the play doh. If they push too hard, the play doh will rip. If they don’t push hard enough and use enough force, the letters will not show up. A few different ways to do this depending on age/skill level. - show a flash card of a letter and let your child write it in the play dough using a pencil/utensil and then trace it with beads (for the older toddlers who can write letters) - You write a letter in the play doh and have your child “trace” the letter by putting beads along the lines. This will help them with letter recognition and improve pre writing skills to prepare them for letter formation later on. #finemotorskills #prewritingskills #prewriting #handwriting #kindergarten #prek #preschool #prekactivities

🌟 Understanding Tactile Processing: The Superpower of Touch ✔️Did you know that the way we process touch affects everything we do? From feeling the softness of a blanket to sensing heat on a stove, tactile processing is a vital part of how we navigate the world. ✅️ So, what exactly is tactile processing ? It’s the way our brain interprets sensory information from our skin—whether it's pressure, temperature, texture, or pain. Good tactile processing means our brain can accurately respond to these sensations, helping us make decisions, stay safe, and complete everyday tasks. ❇️ How does it work? When we touch something, sensory receptors in our skin send messages to our brain. The brain then processes this information and tells our body how to react. For example, feeling the heat of a cup can signal the brain to move our hand away quickly. ✨️ Why is tactile processing important? 🔸️Body awareness: Helps us know where our body is in space. 🔸️Safety: Alerts us to harmful stimuli, like sharp objects or extreme heat. 🔸️Emotional regulation: Proper tactile processing can help us stay calm and focused, avoiding sensory overload. 🔸️Motor control: It supports movements like writing, using utensils, or brushing teeth, which require precision and coordination. ⚠️ When things go awry... If tactile processing is disorganized or inefficient, we can experience tactile defensiveness (over-sensitivity to touch) or under-responsiveness (difficulty noticing touch sensations). Both can affect daily tasks, self-regulation, and social interactions. 💫 A balanced tactile system = smoother day-to-day functioning. 🌟 In OT, we use sensory play, massage, or even deep pressure techniques to help children and adults regulate and enhance their tactile processing skills. Let’s embrace the power of touch and explore how it shapes our experiences! . . . . . LIKE | SHARE | COMMENT | FOLLOW . . .
