ALEver re-taught a behavior?

As you will continue hearing me say, the focus heel is a behavior that I believe most trainers will continue working to “perfect” more and more.
When I originally taught Stryker, my expectation was not a crazy vertical stretch. While he is walking, I still do not expect that of him. I appreciate the enthusiasm and overall look of focus, but I don’t like my dogs looking super robotic.
…although that term is relative…
However, recently he has been leaning a bit away from me while stationary in a focus heel (this I’m sure is on me), so I am “going back” and tightening my expectation for a stationary position.
Here I start with:
-In the focus heel position, stationary, expectation is stretch of the neck, mainly his chin/side of face is making contact with me
-Adding in a slight lean
-A but more of a lean, and adding duration (I marked with terminal as my main expectation is that his face was making contact-and should he pull his face back, he would not be wrong. But I probably should have marked with my duration marker anyways)
-Hand goes outside of the head, bring expectations down again, mark the main behavior-face contact-and reward
-Hand on outside again, slight lean, reward
-Same thing, bigger lean
…from here, I will slowly start to increase my lean and duration. I will start to proof off of the Cato board. Add in other behaviors slowly. Then up the distractions and practicing in different environments.
…I’ve got a good plan for future videos. Breaking bigger behaviors into smaller, more realistic steps to further understand the process.
