Compressed, granular, strip-shaped, leaf-shaped, or bud tea— each responds to water in its own way. Low pour, high pour, spiral pour, coverage pour, edge-circling— these are not techniques for display, but choices made after observing and understanding the tea. The first infusion is an awakening. Brewing is a process of guidance. Through the power, speed, and angle of the water flow, with the help of the space and temperature created by the teaware, we enhance the tea’s strengths and soften its edges, allowing aroma to rise and flavour to become clear. As tea people, our role is not to control the tea, but to listen—and respond with water. When you begin to adjust your pouring method according to the tea, you may discover that the tea has been telling you what it wants all along. 2026 Spring tea study session Day 1: After months of preparation, our 4-day tea journey finally began. From different parts of the world, we gathered in Menghai—the heart of Pu’er tea. Still carrying a bit of travel fatigue, we didn’t slow down. Instead, we headed straight into the tea mountains, full of curiosity and anticipation. Our first stop was the Hekai ancient tea garden. Surrounded by tall, old tea trees, we watched local farmers climb high into the branches to pick fresh leaves—just as it has been done for generations. In that moment, tea was no longer just something in a cup, but something alive, rooted in people, land, and time. Later, at the Hekai Tea Museum, we followed the journey of a tea leaf—from fresh picking to sun-drying. Step by step, the process became clearer, more tangible. In the afternoon, we visited the Liuda Chashan factory. Here, tradition met modern production. Machines hummed, workers moved with precision, and the scale of refined Pu’er tea processing came into view. We ended the visit with a quiet tasting session—letting everything we had seen settle into the cup. For me, this place carries personal memories. Returning after many years, I was struck by both familiarity and change—the same spirit, now with new energy and growth. It was a reminder that tea, like people, continues to evolve. This journey is not just about learning tea. It is about experiencing it—through places, people, and shared moments. Day 1 has come to an end, but the mountains still have many stories to tell.
