DHey there, sewmate! If you’re diving into sewing with tweed for the first time, l’ve got a couple of tips that’ll make your journey smoother. First off, after your fabric, consider weaving the pieces together before you start sewing-it’s a game! And don’t forget to add plenty of seam allowance; it’ll save you a lot of headaches later. Trust me, follow these steps, and you’ll thank me later! Happy sewing! #tweed #twopieces #tweedfabric

I used to fall for fabrics just based on how they looked… and I learned the hard way that looks can be very deceiving. Now, every fabric has to prove itself first. Before I invest in larger quantities, I stress test each swatch— seeing how it stretches, how it recovers, how the seams hold up, if it snags easily, how it ACTUALLY behaves. It’s a small step, but it saves me from designing something that won’t hold up the way I want it to. Curious what I look for when I’m testing? Let me know and I’ll share more of my process ✨

The edge of your fabric is called the selvage 🧵👇 It’s the tightly woven edge along both sides— ✨ prevents fraying ✨ keeps your fabric stable ✨ helps you cut perfectly on grain You’ll spot it as the slightly thicker edge (sometimes with little printed dots or info 👀) 💡 Sewing tip (especially for knits): Snip into the selvage so your fabric lays flat before cutting—this helps your patterns stay accurate 🙌✂️ If you’re new to sewing (or tired of guessing)… you’re in the right place 🤍 I teach beginners how to actually understand what they’re doing— from fabrics + patterns to machines, needles & must-know techniques 🪡 No more overwhelm. Just confidence. Ready to finally get sewing? ✨ Comment GUIDE below & I’ll send you my quick-start mini guide (small investment, BIG results) 🚀

Struggling with wavy necklines? Necklines are cut on a curve, so they stretch out faster than you think. Staystitching keeps things from shifting before you assemble. It only takes 5 minutes!

I created it using the simplest rectangle + square concept, inspired by a super talented creator (I’ll tag them because this pattern was just chef’s kiss). It’s such an easy make, and I’m so grateful for the inspiration! If you’d like the FULL measurements and step-by-step tutorial, comment “LINK” (or honestly any comment 😉) and I’ll send you all the details so you can make your own! Fabric details: This stunning wool is from the one and only Beglerian Fabrics — I always recommend them. Their fabrics are truly one of a kind, and once they’re sold out… they’re gone. You can use code Tazzi20 for 20% off your order ✨ Trust me, you won’t find wool like this anywhere else. I pressed everything on my favorite wool mat (I’ll tag the brand!) and used my absolute go-to scissors from KAIScissors — super light, incredibly sharp, and so smooth you barely feel the cut. Total game changer. Go make one. You’ll thank yourself later 🤎

✨ Why would you sew paper…? ✨ Okay… I’m spilling my pattern fitting secrets 👀✂️ This is how I get a great fit before I even cut into my fabric… Using our sister brand @patterntraceuk Swedish Tracing Paper, I trace my pattern, sew up a quick toile in the paper, and tweak the fit until I’m happy. No wasted fabric, no guesswork, just a much calmer, more confident start to your project 💛 It’s strong, sewable, semi-transparent and made in the UK from natural fibres, so it’s a really lovely sustainable option too. We’ll be bringing Patterntrace along to @thestitchfestival this weekend, so you can see it for yourself… 🕐 Saturday 13:00–13:40 I’ll be on the Demo Stage talking: “Fix the Fit with Patterntrace: From Toile to Pattern Pieces” Come along, have a look, and let me show you how it works in real life 🧵✨ Comment PATTERNTRACE and I’ll spill my secret in your DMs 💛 #GuthrieGhani #Patterntrace #StitchFestival #Dressmaking #sewingtips

Fabric: heavier fabrics are often more expensive and have a more luxurious drape. Cheaper fabrics are often thinner. With some exceptions of course. Choose natural fabrics, like cotton, linen, wool, etc. Details: don’t skip them, spend time on topstitching, adding pockets and any details that will elevate your project. Fast fashion skips details to make their production less expensive. When you sew your own clothes you don’t need to compromise 💕 If you want help on your sewing journey, DM me ‘MENTOR’ to apply for my mentorship program. #sewing

Fabric choice has more impact on your results than most beginners expect. When your fabric is stable, everything feels easier. Your seams stay where you place them, your stitches look cleaner, and you can actually focus on learning the process instead of fighting the material. When your fabric is slippery or stretchy too soon, it creates frustration that has nothing to do with your ability. Give yourself the advantage of working with something that supports you while you learn. Save this so you remember what to look for next time you’re at the fabric store. Follow along and I’ll show you how to read a sewing pattern next.
