AMMany people think texturizers can’t do harm because they don’t fully straighten the hair. But scientifically, a texturizer works the same way as a relaxer, it just stays on the hair for a shorter time.
Here’s the science in a simple way 👇
Texturizers are alkaline chemical treatments. They work by breaking disulfide bonds inside the hair shaft, the bonds that give your hair its natural curl pattern and strength.
Once those bonds are broken:
• the curl pattern is permanently altered
• the hair becomes more porous
• moisture escapes more easily
• elasticity is reduced
• strength is compromised
That’s why you often see:
• two textures (curly new growth + looser ends) like my client in this Video.
• more tangling where the textures meet
• breakage during wash day
• hair that looks “fine” but feels weaker over time
