I did some colorful visible mending of several cat claw holes on this old RTW shawl of mine.
My squares are certainly not perfect as I get the hang of using the tool, but very fun and deeply satisfying!

CAOn a couple pairs of socks, I had worn clear through the sole. Now I don’t want a bulky duplicate stitch patch where I’ll be walking on it, so I’m going to try a less dense woven patch here.
I’ll come up to the right of and below the hole, then trace that row over to the left, and grab one of the horizontal bars between knit stitches. Then back to the right, skip a bar, and grab the next bar. Repeat until we’ve got the entire warp set up.
Now for the weft, I’ll go under, over, under, over. And I’ll grab one leg of a knit stitch at the bottom. Since I went over the last strand on the first pass, I need to start with under on the next pass. And on each pass, I’ll use the needle to pack down the previous pass.
By the end of the patch, it’s going to be a little hard to get your needle in there. You can use your fingernail or the tip of the needle to pack down the weft a little if necessary. You can also stretch your fabric on the diagonal to even out the tension a bit more.
And there you have it! A woven patch!
