On February 28, 2026, Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting U.S. military bases across the Middle East—including in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Israel—in retaliation for joint U.S.-Israeli preemptive strikes on Iranian nuclear, missile, and leadership sites. Explosions rocked Abu Dhabi, where UAE defenses intercepted missiles, but debris killed at least one person (a Pakistani national reported). The attack escalated regional tensions, disrupted Gulf airspace and flights, and raised fears of broader conflict. Via @indiainsightnow

Iran has launched a major wave of missiles and drones at the United Arab Emirates in the latest escalation of the Middle East conflict, with regional officials saying a substantial portion of Tehran’s aerial assault was directed at the UAE. According to data from the UAE Ministry of Defense, Iranian forces fired dozens of ballistic missiles and hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles toward Emirati territory over the past days, with advanced air-defense systems tracking and destroying most of the incoming threats before they could strike key targets. UAE authorities reported that hundreds of missiles and drones were detected heading toward the country, a large share of which — more than six in ten according to current counts — were successfully intercepted or forced into the sea by the nation’s defense networks. The UAE’s layered air defense, supported by Patriot and THAAD systems as well as fighter patrols, was credited with stopping the majority of Iranian ballistic and cruise missiles, minimizing direct hits on population centers and critical infrastructure. Defense officials expressed satisfaction with interception performance but stressed that debris from destroyed projectiles still caused some collateral damage and limited fires in urban areas such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Three foreign workers were reported killed and multiple residents injured as a result of debris impacts, underscoring the dangers posed even by counter-strike operations.
