🦟🍃Thrips are one of the fastest-spreading and most destructive houseplant pests, and this is what they can do in less than a week. This Monstera Albo leaf went from flawless to covered in black specks — which were actually thrips eggs. Many plant owners don’t realize that thrips lay eggs inside leaf tissue, meaning infestations can already be advanced before you even notice damage. I first dealt with thrips years ago after bringing home a new plant that unknowingly carried larvae. Even though I treated immediately, sprays alone didn’t solve the problem because thrips have a long life cycle with multiple stages: egg, larva, pre-pupa, pupa, and adult. If you only treat one stage, the others keep the infestation going. What finally eradicated them from my collection was biological pest control using beneficial mites. Releasing predatory mites like cucumeris and swirskii targets thrips in their early stages and breaks the life cycle naturally. Within 2–3 weeks, all signs of thrips were gone, and I haven’t relied on chemicals alone since. If you grow indoor plants or rare houseplants, early detection and integrated pest management are everything. Check leaves regularly, quarantine new plants, and don’t underestimate how quickly pests can spread. Have you ever dealt with thrips before, or are you still pest-free? #pestprevention #thrips #houseplants #plantcare

You think you’re doing everything right then suddenly… spider mites 🫠 Don’t panic. If you’re a plant parent, it’s bound to happen at some point. The key is catching it early and acting quickly. Here’s what to do: ➤ Isolate the plant to prevent the infestation from spreading ➤ Dilute @growarber Bio-Insecticide in a spray bottle and watering can to treat foliage and soil ➤ Thoroughly wipe leaves, stems, and crevices (they love to hide) ➤ Monitor consistently to help your plant bounce back faster ➤ Increase humidity if your space is dry, spider mites thrive in low-humidity environments Hopefully you never have to deal with this… but save this post just in case 🤞 or you’d rather not handle it alone, book a plant care session with us through the link in our bio 🌿

Want those iconic Swiss-cheese type holes in your Monstera delisiosa leaves? Monsteras don’t fenestrate by accident, it’s a sign of maturity and proper care. • Here are ways to promote fenestration & leaf perforation 👇🏽 ☀️ Bright, indirect light Fenestration is light-driven. Place your Monstera near a bright window (filtered sun is best). 🪴 Let it climb Use a moss pole or trellis. Monsteras are natural climbers, and vertical growth encourages larger, more perforated leaves. 💧 Water consistently (not excessively) Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Healthy roots = healthy leaf development. 🌬️ Boost humidity Aim for 50–70% humidity to mimic its tropical environment and support proper leaf formation. 🌱 Feed during the growing season Use a balanced fertilizer in spring and summer to fuel bigger, stronger leaves. 🧬 Be patient—maturity matters Young Monsteras won’t fenestrate right away. Each new leaf should be larger and more detailed than the last. #monstera #houseplants #jackiesgardeninggems

Came home from vacation to a spider mite outbreak — and honestly, it’s the perfect example of how pests really happen. Spider mites love dry, cool indoor air. Turning off humidifiers + winter conditions creates an environment where plants can’t defend themselves as well. The first signs aren’t bugs — they’re texture changes: • leaves look dusty or dull • fine speckling appears • thin webbing shows up along veins • mites look like tiny moving dust particles What I did: • removed heavily infested leaves • sprayed every leaf, top and bottom, with insecticidal soap • temporarily increased humidity to disrupt reproduction This wasn’t neglect, it was a shift in environment. Plants don’t get pests. Stressed plants get pests. If you’ve ever come home from a trip to weird-looking leaves, this is your sign to check closely. 👀🌿

This is leaf spot, and it’s not one disease. It’s a visible pattern that happens when bacteria or fungi damage tiny areas of leaf tissue after leaves stay wet. When moisture sits on the leaf surface, microbes enter through natural openings. The plant responds by isolating the damaged cells, that’s the brown spot. The yellow halo is the plant’s defense response. Notice how it’s only on the green tissue and not the white. Green areas are actively photosynthesizing and moving water, which makes them more vulnerable. White variegation has no chlorophyll, so there’s far less activity for pathogens to take advantage of. These spots won’t disappear, but improving airflow, watering at the soil, and keeping leaves dry prevents new ones from forming. Save this for the next time someone says, “I think it has bugs”

You thought your plant was thriving… and then you met the mealy bugs! For larger plants you can use the insecticidal soap directly on the leaves but be sure to keep away from the light source until it dries. Same goes for isopropyl alcohol. Reminder that plant pests are a part of plant care… annoying but unfortunately a part of it. As you grow more confident in your care, pests won’t feel as detrimental.
