Want your students to listen and respect boundaries without raising your voice? 🤝 Here’s a peek at how I set up listening + mutual respect routines in a real 1st grade classroom. The Heart‑Centered Instructional Toolkits give you practical strategies you can use right away—not just ideas, but ready-to-go routines, shared language, mini-trainings, and resources that make your classroom feel calmer, more focused, and connected. From routines to behavior management tools, these toolkits help you build a classroom that actually works for you—one that supports positive behavior, keeps students engaged, and makes teaching feel more manageable. We just wrapped spring enrollment two weeks ago, and teachers have been messaging us saying they missed their chance. So, for this weekend only, we’re giving you ONE LAST CHANCE to join the Heart‑Centered Instructional Toolkit programs! 💬 One teacher shared: “I really didn’t think it was possible for me to see a difference at this time of school year and it’s given me so much hope.” 🥹 ⏰ Doors close Sunday and will stay closed for the rest of the school year. Teaching students to read an analog clock is one of the hardest skills we teach in elementary school. It sounds simple, but students have to connect that the numbers 1 through 12 represent hours while the minutes move around the clock and are counted by fives. If this concept isn’t taught clearly, students can easily get lost. I even saw this with my own daughter. In many curriculums, telling time is the last unit of the year, so teachers sometimes rush through it or never get to it. We start with the basics. We talk about the difference between a watch and a clock, and analog versus digital time. Students learn that an analog clock is round and has two hands. The short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes. We also notice the 12 numbers around the clock and the 60 little lines that represent the minutes in an hour. Then we focus on something really important: the space between the numbers. Each student gets a blank clock face and their desk pet. I explain that each number owns the space next to it, like a door to a room. When you pass a number moving clockwise, you enter that number’s room. The hour hand stays in that room until it reaches the next number. Students practice by placing their desk pet in the space that belongs to the hour I call out. Then we make it even more fun by using our desk pets. Students place their desk pet in the “room” I say, point to the space, and check with a friend while I walk around and assess. Once everyone understands the rooms, students color in the spaces on their clocks. I found this idea on Teachers Pay Teachers from a creator named Cassie @thriftyinthirdgrade , and it completely changed how I teach telling time. #clock #time #thirdgrade #teacher #teacherinspiration

🤔 Relying on algorithms might get you to the right answer, but it robs you of a chance to use your reasoning abilities! If you asked me two years ago to compare 3/7 and 7/12, I probably would have jumped straight to multiplying, but I love that there’s another way! 🌟 I’ll admit, benchmark fractions don’t always work. For example, try using them to compare 7/12 and 8/15. It fails miserably! We need a more sophisticated method to solve that problem, and our kids will learn about that in fifth grade (at least here in California). 💡But learning to think about the general size of a fraction is a skill that will be useful to our kids throughout their lives! #fractions #thirdgrade #elementaryschool #parenting

Comment “song” and make sure you’re following me to get a song list send to your DMs. Today we worked on fluency reading lyrics. I forgot that portions of this song are read (or sang) fast. Also, I kept reminding them to read it clearly and with fluency. They loved it. We will be doing it again soon! Our reading interventionist loved it. I was just trying to change it up🤣🤣#fyp #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram #teacher
