My outfit today was pretty basic, and was needing a little extra something-something to take it from 🤷🏼♀️ to 💃🏼. Enter in the “third layer”. Something as simple as throwing a sweater over my shoulders to add a little more interest to the overall look is all it takes to amp it up to the next level!

AFI recently read the quote “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” When I add a third layer to an outfit, it remains simple but becomes sophisticated. It adds texture, color and warmth. Of course third layer pieces can be affordable. All three third layer pieces I’m styling are things I had in my closet. I hope to inspire you to wear that leather jacket or puffer vest the next time you’re creating an outfit.

ITSometimes an outfit just doesn’t feel complete… the best trick is to add a third layer! It doesn’t always have to be a jacket or coat, but as we head into fall, that’s usually the simplest option.
I tend to gravitate towards lighter layers and pieces that will go with multiple styles.
This @1822denim utility jacket has been a closet staple for me for a few years now. At only $59, it cannot be beat! It’s super stretchy and comes in a few additional colors. This one is a best seller at Nordstroms and always sells out so grab it while it’s available.
I also styled this @rails cropped wool jacket here with the same tank and jeans! The color is perfection and will go with so many other outfits.
