Did you know we now stock embroidery floss? If embroidery has been quietly calling your name, consider this your sign. We’ve welcomed a growing range of threads into the shop, and this reel shows just a small peek. Colour-changing mouliné with gentle shifts and surprises, plus satin threads that catch the light and feel silky as they stitch. Perfect for slow evenings, tiny details, bold lines, and everything in between. Whether you’re adding embroidery to sewing projects or starting something entirely new, the threads are ready when you are. Pop by, browse, and let the colours do what they do best 🎨🪡 #EscapeAndCreate #EmbroideryFloss #EmbroideryThread #ModernEmbroidery #HandEmbroidery

The key trick: Tension and anchor The most common problem with French knots is they pull through to the back of the fabric or come out lumpy. Here’s what works: 1. Keep the thread taut throughout - After wrapping the thread around your needle (typically 1-2 times for a small knot, 3 times for larger), maintain tension on the working thread with your non-needle hand. Don’t let it go slack. 2. Insert the needle very close to where it came up, but not in the exact same hole - Place it about 1-2 fabric threads away. Going back into the same hole causes the knot to pull through. 3. The critical moment - As you push the needle down through the fabric, keep that thread taut and slide the wraps down the needle shaft until they sit snugly against the fabric surface. Hold the tension until the needle is almost completely pulled through to the back. Release at the last second - Only release the thread tension when you have just a tiny tail left to pull through. This “sets” the knot on top of the fabric.

This may be a bit of a niche reel, but..... I get really dry hands in the winter, but also calluses from all the hand stitching I do (no matter how many years I've been doing it). How do I know? The raw silk will ALWAYS catch on my middle finger just when I'm at a crucial part of an embroidery 😭

Water-soluble stabilizer film = training wheels for stitching ✨ A lot of the result depends on the good transfer. Such film solves the problem once and for all. For printing on a non-sticky film like mine use label paper. I show the process in the highlight “Print transfer” Stitch on it, rinse it out, move on with your life. 🧵The Great Thread Debate. Polyester Thread (my go-to): • Finer and nearly undetectable • Softer and more hair-like • Less bulk, flatter foundation • Strong and secure with proper stitching Nylon Thread: • Thicker and more rigid • Can feel bulkier for the guest • Silky texture = slip out more easily Small details make a big difference in your installs! Are you team Polyester or Nylon?

[ad] I rarely buy greeting cards - it's much more fun to make them myself and it's a great way to use up scraps of paper, fabrics and other bits & bobs! For this card I used threads from @itoyarn: Nui (100% silk, shades Rose and Dahlia) Gin (65% cupro, 35% polyester) San (75% viscose, 25% polyester) I filled in the heart shape with French knots, holding two shades of thread together to get more texture. A few people have told me they struggle with French knots, so I'm planning a little How To video - so if there's a particular aspect of French knots you find frustrating, let me know in the comments! #embroidery #crafting #slowstitching

✨ Thread Fusion isn’t only for blending bold decorative threads. In this case, I didn’t have the exact 12-wt color I wanted for the background panel of an upcoming wall hanging. But I did have a perfectly matched serger cone thread. So I blended (3) lighter-weight threads in the chain looper using Thread Fusion and it created a beautiful, subtle texture that supports the design without competing. 🧵 Sometimes the solution is already in your thread bin. ☘️ Full reveal coming soon! 💫 Green Seracor serger cone thread for the win. 💚 @mettler_thread
