Don't let these tiny invaders catch you off guard! 💥Thanks to our changing climate, ticks are becoming a year-round concern in 🇩🇪.   Medical researchers say that there is a risk of Lyme disease – a tick-borne  infection - all over Germany, with the highest risks in the eastern and southern parts, and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) mainly in the south and some eastern states. But ticks can be found anywhere with plants 🌳🍃– maybe even in your own backyard! 😱 Stay protected:  • Wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors. 👖 • Do a thorough tick check after spending time outside. 🧐 • Remove any ticks promptly and correctly with tweezers.  Do you have any other tip to add?  #meetthegermans #ticksafety #health #tbe #lyme

When venturing around the trails or hanging out at picnic areas, remember that you are in prime tick habitats. Ticks live in grassy, brushy, and wooded areas, and that makes Valley Forge prime real estate. I mean, we get it, it’s a beautiful park. But these park goers are not fun to encounter.  Ticks carry diseases and can transfer them to people, pets and other animals through biting and feeding on blood 🩸 Yikes! Some ticks tend to have a variety of hosts throughout their lifecycle while others tend to have a single host — you might even think they were roommates 😏 — but these are not the kind of roommates you want 🥲 You can prevent ticks from finding their way to your skin with clever clothing hacks. Minimize skin exposure by tucking pant legs into your socks or boots, rolling your sleeves down when possible, tucking undershirts into pants, and wearing hats. Tick repellents can also prevent tick bites! 🧛‍♀️ ✅Doing a tick check on your own or with a friend after spending time at the park is the best way to prevent ticks from coming home with you. Check in and around your hair and ears. Look under arms, check bellybuttons, look between legs and back of knees. If you find a tick on your cloths or skin and they haven’t bitten you yet, simply brush it off. ⚠️If you find a tick attached to your skin, remove the tick as soon as possible by following steps from the @cdcgov by visiting www.cdc.gov/ticks/after-a-tick-bite. Even though tick and tick checks are a serious thing, they shouldn’t prevent us from connecting with nature and our public lands.
