APRiver monster… World record male specimen Goliath Tigerfish caught by Graham Lawrence and myself in the most ridiculous scenario possible from a tiny little leaking wooden canoe completely alone without boatman on the dangerous Congo river, greatest team effort ever. You can see it’s a male on the head & body proportions, it smashed the old male record by a mile and was so f*****g close to the overall official female IGFA world record from 1988. Heartbreaking that most of the biggest specimens dies almost instantly, the bigger the faster it seems which making sense that this pinnacle monster literally died under a minute after it was secured in the big sling under the unhooking without even leaving the water. Both bro and I know what we’re doing, they are so fragile and simply fight themselves to death when they’re old enough. Even when they swim away, they often get found down river the day after brought back by the natives. At least nothing goes to waste, not even the insides when the beast feed the whole local village that literally has nothing but helps us catch baits all night. I completely understand some people think why do it as a hardcore C&R angler when knowing the biggest ones have a hard time recovering, but they has to understand a few things. This fish in your hands is a statement of you’re abilities as an extreme angler and a man, it’s the hardest of the hard, and thé ultimate test both fishing skill and environment wise so it’s already there about something bigger. This fish changes, and develops you as nothing else. When the fish can’t recover you help hungry families and kids living lives you can’t even imagine, while making it a part of your own soul eating it amongst grateful natives looking like they just won the lottery, and therefore the most worthy death possible. Remember that there’s no fishing pressure on them in that ginormous river in one of the most hostile environments on Earth, with natives that can’t even target them themselves and so few anglers fish for them each year, it’s simply impossible to empty that river for monster Goliath Tigerfish!
