@ reisamores The last point on how ADHDers and AuADHDers’ brain 🧠 works is a celebration ADHD Dolphining / Porpoising 🐬 A fun term for how ADHD brains (and often AuDHD brains) think and talk! • Your mind dives deep 🌊underwater like a dolphin/porpoise: making fast, hidden connections, associations, memories, or tangents. • Then you “surface” suddenly with a comment that seems random or unrelated to others. • To neurotypicals (NTs), it looks like jumping topics, zoning out, or non-sequiturs. • But inside, it’s all connected—🧬your brain 🧠 just processes nonlinearly and associatively - I ❤️this - -not linearly/step-by-step). - this last one about its all connected is most important I think for understanding self.

Ever been told you’re “too much”? Too loud. Too intense. Too talkative. Too emotional. Sometimes those repeated moments become the “little paper cuts” that shape the way we see ourselves. In episode 11, Aaron talks about why feeling “too much” and “not enough” can happen at the same time — and how the right context can change everything. 🎧Listen to Episode 11 now. #differentnotdefective #AuDHDawareness #ADHD #adhdbrain #Audhdpsychpodcast

DOLPHINING (sometimes called “dolphin🐬 mind” or “porpoising”) is a popular way to describe a thinking pattern in ADHD (and often AuADHD brains. 🧠 Your brain is like a dolphin swimming in the ocean. 🏊‍♂️🌊 Most brains swim straight on top of the water, talking about one thing at a time. But dolphin brains dive deep underwater to find cool ideas! 💡 its thoughts that dive deep underwater 🌊 🔊(like a dolphin submerging), follow a chain of associations or tangents that aren’t visible to others, and suddenly surface with an apparently unrelated comment or 😬 jump 😳in conversation. If someone dolphins around you, just ask: “How did your brain get there?” They love sharing the underwater path! 😄 If you do this dolphining —-Ask Questions Every Few Sentences (Balances talking/listening) Train yourself: After sharing 2-3 thoughts, pause and ask something like: “What do you think?” or “Has that happened to you?” It shares the spotlight, keeps you engaged (instead of planning your next thing), and makes the convo feel like a team effort rather than a monologue.

This is a very scientific explanation of how the neurodivergent brain works 😂 Just kidding - any time you reduce something to it's simple parts you will lose nuance so neuroscientists, please excuse my basic explanation! The point is that our brains are not as pruned as neurotypical brains and therefore we have a lot more neural pathways and we notice more detail. So things look and act different. Difference is not dysfunction! It's just different. We need a less linear approach and more of a holistic approach that is varied and has lots of sensory breaks, in anything we do! Failed year 12 twice. Avoided university for decades. Then understood his brain — and submitted his Master’s thesis three weeks early. 🧠 For so many AuDHD and ADHD people, the biggest barrier to learning isn’t intelligence. It’s the story we’ve been carrying about ourselves since we were kids — the one that says we’re lazy, careless, or just not smart enough. But that narrative was built in a world that didn’t understand our brains. And when we finally do understand them, everything shifts. The anxiety that kept Aaron away from studying for years wasn’t a personality trait. It was a response to a story that was never true in the first place. (This doesn’t mean it’s easy to rewrite. But it is possible — and it starts with understanding how your brain actually works.) 🎙️ Aaron breaks it all down on the AuDHD Psych Podcast — link in bio. #AuDHD #ADHD #NeurodivergentCommunity #DifferentNotDefective #AuDHDPsychPodcast LateActuallyDiagnosed NeurodivergentAffirming
