HOHealing has a way of slowing everything down.
4 weeks ago I had TLIF surgery, which is spinal fusion surgery to remove a disc in my spine, replace it with a bone graft/cage and hold it in place with rods and screws while it fuses to my spine over the next 9-12 months. Prior to this, I had 2 less invasive and less intense back surgeries that for various reasons didn’t “fix” me. That makes this my 3rd back surgery in 19 months.
I’m learning that recovery isn’t just physical. It’s emotional. Mental. Spiritual.
This season has asked me to lean harder than ever on my family. To let go of the pace I used to live at. To trust that rest is not weakness and that healing happens quietly, often behind the scenes.
It’s reminded me that I don’t have to do it all, all the time. That being supported is a strength. That the slow days are just as sacred as the big ones.
I’m taking things one step at a time. Rebuilding. Re-centering. Reprioritizing.
Letting joy and work and life find a new rhythm with a little more grace and a lot more presence.
I’m sharing this because I know so many of us put pressure on ourselves to keep pushing, performing, producing no matter what. But sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is pull back, breathe, and trust that your work will still be there when you’re ready.
To any fellow small business owner in a hard season right now: you’re not behind. You’re just being asked to meet yourself with grace. That’s not failure, it’s wisdom. It’s the whole point of owning your own business, for it to meet your needs where you are at, pushing and pulling as you are able.
