ST💻 I have a new love in my life, and it is called TouchDesigner.
🔴 For YEARS I kept telling myself that I’d take the time to learn this program, but (like a lot of things) I just kept putting it off. But this past month, I focused all my energy and finally committed to learning it and honestly, it is the FUN-EST S*%$ EVER!!!!
🟢 I’m now at a point where I’m feeling confident enough to tackle more challenging things (like this video). It’s amazing how much you can absorb when you dedicate yourself to one thing.
🔵 If you’re interested in learning TouchDesigner, I recommend checking out the official @touchdesigner website. They created a FREE fundamentals course, and it’s genuinely the best introduction because they prioritise understanding the program over just following steps. You’ll actually grasp the technical details and know what’s happening under the hood, rather than memorising a workflow.
🖤 Shoutout to @blankensmithing and @domscott.art for creating the Media Pipe plugin! I had a blast learning how to use the hand tracking and creating this visual with a dahlia I bought at the flower market! 🌸

This is a hand-tracking interactive system for sound and visuals.
•
In #TouchDesigner, I used the #MediaPipe plugin developed by @blankensmithing to recognize the coordinates of the user’s fingers in front of the camera. I extracted three values: the distance between the index finger and thumb of each hand, and the distance between both hands. These values are sent to the audio software and also affect the size of circular points in the visuals, as well as distort the image.

In #VCVRack, hand signals are received via the #OSC protocol and interact with the modular synthesizer. The three values are mapped to the OSC Frequencer, Drum Attack, and Liquid Filter. When both fingers close, the primary audio track is muted.

This system is an experimental project with potential future applications. For example, party DJs could perform with virtual controllers, or technicians could operate without carrying heavy hardware equipment.

OKIn @touchdesigner you can turn any video into a particle system with displacement in just a few steps. Start with a Movie File In, connect a TOP to POP, and choose Height R to control the displacement. Add two Randoms — one for scale, one for rotation — and use a Copy SOP with a tiny box to instance your points. Add lights, shadows, and depth… and you’ve got a living, breathing particle world from your video.
