How to prune a Lemon Tree 🍋✂️ Tutorial for a healthy & productive tree 🌿 No matter the size of your lemon tree, regular pruning is essential to keep it healthy, productive, and well balanced. A well-pruned citrus tree allows better sunlight penetration, improved airflow, and stronger fruit development. Here are the main branches you should remove: 🍋First, remove all dead wood. Dead branches drain energy, attract pests, and can spread disease. Removing them improves overall tree health. 🍋Second, remove water suckers. These are vigorous green shoots that grow inward or vertically. They consume nutrients and water but usually do not produce fruit. If left unchecked, they can grow large and reduce productivity. 🍋Third, remove crossing branches inside the canopy. When branches rub against each other, they create wounds that invite disease. They also reduce airflow and block sunlight inside the tree. 🍋Fourth, cut back excessively tall branches. Opening up the tree improves air circulation and allows sunlight to reach the inner canopy, which helps fruit ripen evenly and reduces fungal risk. Proper lemon tree pruning supports stronger growth, better structure, and more abundant harvests. If you are wondering what to do with all your lemons, you will find plenty of ideas on my page 😉 Green Love to you

PRUNING PEACHES - It’s legitimately scary to prune fruit trees, especially for the first time. What if you do it wrong...did you ruin years of growth? The pruning strategy below is one we’ve used on peaches for 3+ years now and we’ve gotten SO many peaches from this tree we have to give them away: 3 D’s: Remove all dead, diseased, and damaged branches. Easiest place to start, both practically and emotionally 😂 Open Structure: Peaches “want” a open, somewhat airy interior, so remove large branches that “cross through” the interior of the tree. You can also remove any budding branches here, as they’ll be blocked by the outer layer of the tree and will develop poorly. Lowering the Canopy: Unless you’re a giant, you probably want a smaller tree where you can access your fruit. Kevin is 6’4” and still struggles to reach the top of the tree in this video, so he’s cutting it down a touch so he can actually harvest the fruit without needing a ladder or stepstool. 6-8’ is great for a backyard peach tree. Thinning Cuts: Each bud will produce a flower, which will produce a peach. Sometimes you have 12+ buds on one thin branch, which is an offshoot of ANOTHER branch! This is a recipe for disaster as the weight of all of the peaches will snap your branches. You can cut 30-50% of the length off of these branches, which removes those bud sites and “thins” the amount of peaches you’ll have on that branch. Some of these techniques, particularly the last one, seem extreme, BUT will result in a structurally sound tree that produces a ton of high-quality peaches.

I hate to break it to you, but if you’re not pruning your fruit trees right now, your harvest is going to suffer. Shaping, thinning, heading, and removing dead wood directly affect airflow, light, and fruit production. Dormant season pruning sets the tone for the entire year. #fruittrees #pruningtips #floridagardening #homeorchard

My simple guide on how to prune a lemon tree. Pruning your lemon tree provides quite a few benefits. By thinning out the tree, you create better air circulation and allow more sunlight to reach the entire tree. Overall it will create a healthier and more productive lemon tree. #pruningtrees #pruningtips #fruittreecare #fruittrees #lemontree

Fruit tree pruning! I always get overwhelmed with the number of resources and the breadth of information when trying to refresh my memory on fruit tree maintenance, so this is as much for me as it is for you. 😉 I’m a bit late on apples but thankfully these are in my back yard so only me and a few thousand of my close friends here will know. ***I am not a fruit tree pruning master!*** People feel very strongly about their own pruning techniques and if it works for you to do this differently, you have my *full* support. I just wanted to give a quick refresher for those who are nervous, and show what works for me. ☺️ . . . . . . . . . . #fruit #pruning #trees #fruittrees #apples #garden #homeorchard

How to Avoid Dual Leaders in an Apple Tree 🍏✂️ 🥷🌿 Pruning your apple tree? One of the biggest mistakes I see is letting dual leaders (two competing main stems) develop. This weakens the tree, causes structural issues, and can lead to breakages under heavy fruit loads. Beginner gardeners panic about cutting back the main stem on young fruit trees but it’s ESSENTIAL! But don’t worry—here’s how to fix it! ✅ Step 1: Identify the strongest, most upright central leader. This is the one you want to keep. ✅ Step 2: Look for competing vertical stems—these need to go! Use sharp, clean secateurs to remove the weaker one at the base. ✅ Step 3: Make clean, angled cuts just above a healthy outward-facing bud to encourage open growth. ✅ Step 4: Keep an eye on regrowth—apple trees love to send up new shoots, so check back in summer and winter to maintain good structure. A single strong leader = a healthier, more productive tree with better airflow and balance! 🍎🌳 I’d love to hear how you’re all getting on with your winter fruit tree pruning (except for cherries leave them until summer Ninjas 😜) #gardenninja #appletree #fruittrees #gardeningtips #pruning #gardenersworld #gardenrescue #gardenhack #urbangarden #gardenlife #gardenlovers #loveyourgarden #plantsmakepeoplehappy #orchard #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #allotment #forager #homesteading #homesteadlife #carbonneutral #selfsufficient #selfsufficiency #leeburkhill

How to prune olive tree? Olives are pruned in late spring or early summer. Olive trees are really hardy and don’t suffer from die back so you can prune them anywhere, however there’s a few tips you want to follow. First, we want to prune anything that is dead or weak and also any crossing branches that could rub and cause disease. Every cut that you make is going to produce two to three new shoots from the cutting point think about that when shaping the tree. You can prune by around two thirds if needed always pruning above a bud where possible. #garden #gardening
