Iโ€™ve had 3 clients with stiff necks this week. Trigger point massage is a very effective way of releasing the tension. Most of the time our neck is not the problem. The root of the problem comes from the trapezius muscle -The trapezius is a large paired trapezoid-shaped surface muscle that extends longitudinally from the occipital bone to the lower thoracic vertebrae and laterally to the spine of the scapula. Massages and in-home remedies should take care of the problem within a few days. >>if youโ€™ve tried everything and your neck is still in pain after a few days. Please see a doctor to rule anything out. Apply heat or cold packs can work too & donโ€™t forget to stretch ! โค๏ธ

I had just received a scholarship award to study piano performance at @trinitylaban , a dream come true, when debilitating chronic fatigue kicked in and I wasnโ€™t able to begin my studies I felt like I became a mere shadow of the person I used to be, but in the end Iโ€™ve become happier & more at peace than ever. Hereโ€™s how I recovered & what Iโ€™ve learned โ™ฅ๏ธ 1. Burning out is protective against over exertion There are different causes for burnout, but for me I think it was a result of repeatedly pushing myself past my limits for too long (physically, mentally, and emotionally). I took everything to the extreme, with countless all-nighters putting menthol lip balm in my eyes to force myself to stay awakeโ€ฆOnce I even paralysed my own nerve doing a trigger point massage and couldnโ€™t move my big toe for monthsโ€ฆ After years of this, my nervous system started to see even the smallest tasks as a threat. It didnโ€™t trust that I wonโ€™t take things too far, so to stop me from breaking down completely, it stopped letting me exert at all. Even taking a shower felt insurmountable, and recovering has been a process of starting from the absolute basics, and very gradually increasing the exertion until my nervous system trusts that I wonโ€™t go too far again. 2. The embarrassment of regressing I went from getting a scholarship to study piano performance at a leading conservatoire, and a taekwondo athlete, to having such bad brain fog that I wasnโ€™t able to read sheet music at all and not even being able to lift my arms above my head. Regressing is really tough and can feel so embarrassing being so far behind where you used to be, but you have to just meet yourself where youโ€™re at to get better 3. Pushing harder doesnโ€™t fix it Itโ€™s one of those rare times where pushing harder wonโ€™t fix the problem. Iโ€™ve always had the mindset that โ€œif I just push harder I can fix itโ€, which I think is great in most situations, but when youโ€™re totally burned out this isnโ€™t the solution.
