This coin design is a time traveler. Alexandria Troas was a Greek site in Asia Minor that was a free an autonomous city of the Roman Empire with their own coins. The Troas coin features a representation of Athena or wisdom, similar to the Greek Euro used today. In Acts 16, Paul left Troas for Macedonia and we find him repeating the same path in 2 Corinthians 2: “Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.” Paul was waiting in Troas for news from Titus about the church in Corinth but didn’t get it. Paul not only had unpredictable communication but continually unreliable circumstances. His true reliability was the gospel which like the coins has remained the same. When we include the Old Testament, God’s word is the ultimate time traveler!

Historically and archaeologically, this site is a critical component of the ancient city of Alexandria Troas. Here is the archaeological and historical breakdown of the site: 1. An Ancient Roman Inner Harbor What appears to be a lake today was actually the inner harbor of the city of Alexandria Troas approximately 2,000 years ago. Genellikle “Dalyan Kalpli Göl” olarak anılan yer, Çanakkale’nin Ezine ilçesine bağlı Dalyan Köyü sınırları içerisinde, Alexandria Troas Antik Kenti’nin bir parçası olan yapıdır. İsmini kuş bakışı görüntüsündeki kalp formundan ve yılın belli dönemlerinde (özellikle Ağustos ve Eylül aylarında) büründüğü pembe renkten alır. İşte bu gölün arkeolojik ve tarihi arka planı: 1. Roma İmparatorluğunun en parlak zamanlarında antik Roma yolları ağı 85.004 km kara yolunu kapsamaktaydı ve 372 bağlantıdan oluşmaktaydı. Latince viae adı verilen Antik Roma yollarının yapımı askeri, ticari ve siyasal nedenlerle gerekmiş ve Romalılar bu yollar ağ sistemini yapıp ve sonra bakımını sağlamakta büyük deneyim kazanmışlardır. Antik Roma yolları bir mahalden diğer mahale asker ve askeri malzeme taşımak için yapılmakla beraber bu yollar ana taşıt olarak atlı araba için yapılmıştı. Roma askeri lejyonları bu yollar sayesinde çabuk ve emniyetli olarak ülke içinden Roma sınırlarına gidebilmekteydiler.
