SOObviously I can’t always be there at a party to help sort so that’s why I try to share info on what does/doesn’t go where - so that things like properly garbage sorting can become more commonplace.
At events I also usually make announcements to help reduce the need to sort at the end but in this case I just did it.
It’s costing our city millions of our tax dollars to deal with our improper recycling. 💸
It’s actually pretty easy & once you learn, it becomes second nature!
Do you take ownership of the garbage situation at gatherings you’re a part of?
Usually I’d make an announcement as well so that people know & there’s less sorting to do afterwards 🙌🏼

GUAt the start of the new year, it is commonplace for people to try to build in new, healthy habits into their lifestyle. Meditation is one of them! For as many benefits as it has, it is also one of the toughest practices to implement. For starters, it’s difficult to find time in the day to practice. But more so, it is infinitely harder to keep your mind still.
As you start to embrace the many amazing benefits of meditation, it encourages you to stick with the practice. Studies are showing that the brains of long-term meditators have a larger hippocampus (our memory retention area) and smaller amygdalas (the area in charge of fear and panic). And I definitely nerd out over science!
My best advice is this. Take a minimalistic approach to this practice if it is new for you. This means, don’t go all in for a 30 minute sit on your first try. Aim for maybe 5 minutes. And as you get better at this, start to push your limits a bit more. When you approach it from this angle, it serves to show you that you are able to achieve your goal and this encourages you to keep at it…consistency becomes routine!
To ensure the most positive and sustainable experience, try to do the following:
🧘🏽♀️Pick the best time of the day that works for you. This may be in the morning before the hustle of the morning rush kicks in. Or it may be at the end of the day, to help you wind down. There is no right time. Just the BEST time that works with your own personal schedule.
🧘🏽♀️Determine the duration of your sit. Remember, start small and keep building.
🧘🏽♀️Make your environment conducive to success. Maybe it’s a comfy pillow on the floor. Or maybe it’s near the window so you can feel the natural light hit your face. The more comfortable and zen you are, the more likely you are to have a longer sit.
Of course, my mind still wanders! That’s totally normal. But just like working out, you have to train your muscle (your brain) to become more efficient. One of my favourite quotes that is relatable to this practice is this: “Starve your distractions and feed your focus.” And that is my goal with every single session.
