Mosasaur Monday brought to you by Tylosaurus proriger. It’s not a dinosaur, it’s not a fish, it’s what happens when evolution takes a snake and makes it a reptilian prehistoric sea monster that captures my heart. 🏛: @morrisonmuseum #vultureculture#curiosidades#extinct#seamonster

#blender #blendercommunity #blender3D #paleontology #titanosaur #paleontologia #sauropod #sauropodo #titanosaurio #dinosaur #dinosaurio #blenderanimation

The Largest Skull of Them All? 🤯 You know Triceratops, but have you met its cousin Torosaurus? It had one of the largest skulls of any land animal in Earth's history. T. rex had teeth the size of bananas, which is why I call them “murder bananas” 💀🍌🦖 I’m stoked that my T. rex tooth replica got a glow up! It desperately needed new paint and better textures, and @dylan_dewitt61 saved the day! Thank you so much, Dylan, for making my rex tooth shine and look like the real deal! More than one thousand kids got to touch this tooth this year, and now it’s ready for thousands more! Bring on the paleo outreach fun! And thanks to the @dinosaur.ridge T. rex on display at our main visitors center for being a great backdrop 🦖❤️🦖 #trex#coloradogram#fossilfriday

Knighted This new tyrannosaur hasn’t received a deep-dive study yet. Dubbed Sir William (after its discoverer William ‘Bill’ Stein, I believe), it has been suggested to be a Teratophoneus, though cranial differences (to me and others) suggest it is not Terato. It doesn’t appear to be Bistahieversor, either. However, those two’s interrelationships vary depending on the ‘gram used, with some placing them together as sisters/near-sisters while others find one an -oid, the other an -ine. Until I saw this specimen, I had a view that there was a “Cowboy Tyrannosaur” clade of ‘em that evolved in the Southwest. Bistahieversor, “Bistahi destroyer,” lived 75 mya in New Mexico. Teratophoneus, “monstrous murderer”, lived 76 mya in the Late Cretaceous of Utah, 10 million years before Tyrannosaurus. They seem close to each other to me. Found in Montana, Sir William is far away from the beasts it most resembles. Not that geography matters much to giant beasts (elephants cover huge ground). Twill be fun to see if this specimen strengthens a clade of sisters (Three Fates?) or if it will support the -ine/-oid split. The radius and ulna were bitten in two and healed into a stump We don’t know if it was but a small beast when it lost its hand, which would expand the hand-deleting pool substantially. However, if lost as an adult, here are some handy contenders: Another tyrannosaur, perhaps while sparring for prime hunting grounds, a kill, or just because? Imagine it stoops low to slurp a drink of cool lake water and, blammo, a 25’ Deinosuchus bursts forth, snapping wildly? Off goes the hand. A pursued ceratopsian spins about, goes offensive, and takes a bite out of an attempted crime? Regardless of how it lost its lower arm, it was one tough beast, surviving long enough for it to heal. Missing an arm likely didn’t impact its ability to feed as, over time, tyrannosaur arms shrank. I was delighted to see how this Triebold cast fit nicely amidst the many books and paintings. Also present was a sweet Xiphactinus skull and nice vertebral casts which, with their transverse processes and neural spines, looked quite at home amongst the sculptures at Anticus. #FossilCrates

Trix the T. rex is one of the most complete and best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons ever found. Discovered in 2013 in Montana (USA), Trix is about 30 years old at the time of death, making her one of the oldest known T. rex specimens. She is around 12.5 meters long and shows signs of injuries and disease, revealing a tough life in the Late Cretaceous. Trix is now on display at @naturalismuseum Biodiversity Center in Leiden, the Netherlands, where she draws thousands of visitors and plays an important role in dinosaur research and education. A few years ago, the Field Museum gave Sue the T. rex a makeover, repositioning the skeleton to better reflect our updated understanding of T. rex anatomy. One of the most noticeable changes was the addition of the gastralia, or belly ribs, which are often left out of mounted specimens. These bones filled out Sue’s torso, giving Sue a more robust and, let’s be honest, delightfully chonky appearance. The update not only made Sue more scientifically accurate but also served as a reminder that even the most fearsome predators could rock an impressive chonk. #SueTheTRex #FieldMuseum #TyrannosaurusRex #Paleontology #FossilDiscovery #DinosaurScience #ChonkySue
