NEIf your child is aged 13–15 and spends time in Tynemouth, please check this out!
Over the past few weeks, antisocial behaviour has escalated significantly — particularly on Friday and Saturday nights — and it’s getting worse as the weather improves.
This is no longer isolated. It’s affecting the beach, local businesses, and the wider community.
We are seeing:
• Large groups of young teens drinking and becoming disorderly
• The beach left trashed every weekend
• Fires being started in the dunes
• Damage to protected conservation areas
• Attempted break-ins to beach huts
• Burglaries and attempted break-ins at local businesses
• Severe damage to the boardwalk — now beyond repair
When groups are moved off the beach, they head through the dunes and into nearby business areas.
Along Grand Parade, businesses are now dealing with:
• Staff and customers being threatened and verbally abused
• Attempts to break into storage containers
• Bike theft attempts from customer racks
• Benches being destroyed and fencing pulled down
• Windows being smashed
• Graffiti across buildings
• Ongoing litter and damage
This is now impacting trade — but more importantly, people no longer feel safe in what should be a relaxed, family-friendly area.
At Surfers, we’ve been forced to introduce an 18+ policy and restrict toilet access to customers only due to repeated damage and misuse.
We understand young people need places to go — but this level of behaviour is unacceptable.
If you are a parent or guardian, please be aware of where your children are, what they’re doing, and the impact it’s having.
It is often the same groups involved week after week.
Incidents are being reported, and we are working with authorities and schools — but we also need support and awareness from the community.
Tynemouth is a special place. Let’s not allow it to be damaged.
