This would be essential👇🏻 1. Give every character the same voice Especially if they all sound like me 2. Overuse cliché dialects My Australian character will be saying “mate” every time he speaks 3. Have characters refer to other characters by their full name “Sarah Louise Henry, you don’t know how much I love you! … Mate!” 4. Skip the contractions It is “I will do that, mate,” and “I should not have said that, mate” for me here on out! 5. Make it sound like my characters are in a story “This changes everything, mate.” *as he experiences the plot twist* 6. Put no pauses or silent replies in at all Everyone will have something to say to everything. Bonus points if it’s always witty, smart, or perfectly thought through Hope this helps 🤪 Follow @megan.maclaine for daily strategies for finally finishing your first draft 💛

What no one tells you 👇 The secret to realistic dialogue isn’t mimicking real conversations. Just think about the last movie or tv show you watched — did the actors both say goodbye when they hung up the phone? ⏩ Once you notice this, you can’t unnotice it! Here’s why your dialogue might sound stiff: 1️⃣ You’re letting small talk steal the spotlight. Instead of opening with: “Hi, how are you?” Try dropping in immediately: “You didn’t call.” Why this works: You cut filler and open with tension, emotion, or purpose. 2️⃣ You’re forgetting that each line should reveal or move something. Remember: Dialogue should either show character or push the story forward; if it doesn’t, trim it. 3️⃣ You’re writing words that trip the tongue. My favorite tip: Read it aloud. If you stumble, your reader will too. 4️⃣ You’re playing name ping-pong. Don’t repeat names every other line in back-and-forth conversations. Readers can keep up. 😊 5️⃣ You’re saying everything outright. How to fix it: Layer in subtext. What’s not said often hits harder than what is. Use this to your advantage! Writing realistic dialogue doesn’t mean transcribing a real conversation. It sounds counterintuitive at first, but to keep readers engaged and immersed in the scene, try experimenting with these five tips and let me know how it goes. Happy writing + editing! This is the sum of my 4 years of understanding how storytelling works by watching tons of youtube videos and making videos myself! The proper structure: A- Attention (3 sec hook rule: relatable, curiosity driven or controversial statement) I- Interest (pin point a problem or make them relate to one that you’re facing) D- Desire (give solutions to that specific problem or make them feel validated) A- Action ( make them think, react or reflect at the last line) Comment of you want more such videos:) [Content strategies, storytelling, storyteller, how to tell a story, script writing, copywriting, fyp, explore] #storytelling #contentcreationtips #scriptwriting #fyp #explore
