HIThe UK Electronic Travel Authorisation is now mandatory for non-visa nationals entering the country. From 25 February 2026, travelers without an approved ETA, eVisa, or valid documentation will be barred from boarding flights to the UK.
The ETA applies to visitors from 85 nationalities, including the United States, Canada, and France. It costs ยฃ16 and allows multiple journeys over two years or until passport expiry, whichever comes first.
Airlines are required to verify digital permission before departure. The scheme also applies to travelers transiting through the UK who must pass through passport control.
Since its introduction in October 2023, over 19 million ETAs have been issued. As of January 2026, the system has generated more than ยฃ383 million in revenue.
Officials describe the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation as a key step toward digitising border processes and improving security screening. British and Irish citizens remain exempt but must present valid documentation.
