This week I was invited to @lbc and speak to Andrew Marr about the Creator Economy and the launch of an all-party parliamentary group (APPG) to represent UK creators and influencers. I have spoken previously about my passionate for the Creator Economy, however I have not shared everything about my journey to get to where I am now. Although it is an industry that, in my opinion, has been misjudged in the past, the stats are proving that the Creator Economy is having a big impact on the economy, and I believe it has the potential to help so many people when used with good intentions. The truth is my journey as a Creator and Business Owner has not been easy! I started out my career working in the NHS as a Physio, and volunteering at the weekends and evenings in football clubs. During this time I saved up as much money as I could to train in as many extra courses as possible: clinical Pilates, ACL rehab, spinal manipulation, acupuncture and more. I was working every hour I had to better myself, learn, grow and try to help as many people as possible. 5 years after graduating, I worked my way up to become a Physio in Premier League Football Clubs and launched my own Pilates classes in my local community hall. The classes were growing in popularity, so I worked with 2 other instructors to reach and help as many people as possible - community was our focus. Then the scaling began… taking things online while still working in person as a Physio / Pilates Instructor. For my first 3 years on @youtube I grew to 30,000 subscribers and earned just $7. Disheartening… no! Because content creation is like any purpose driven mission, and as long as you are focused on your ‘why’, you have this resilience that keeps you going. Then the ‘break’ happened. My channel grew quickly from 30,000 subscribers, to now 6.4 million. Without @youtube paying Ad revenue, I wouldn’t have had the funds to launch my self funded businesses @leanwithlilly @lean.foods This story is like many other untold Creator / Founder stories, and that is why the recognition from parliament is huge! With this, I hope that we can support more purpose driven Content Creators, and in turn the economy.
