WHAT IS SQ3R?? 🤓
1️⃣ SURVEY - glance over the material as a whole, read the summary, make note of the topic, each subheading & section, and any diagrams
.
2️⃣ QUESTION - formulate 1 overarching question for each paragraph, and then a bunch of more specific questions for the content of the paragraph or diagrams. Make these questions very specific as this will aid comprehension. These questions will train your mind to actively searching for answers in the next step, thus ENGAGING it during learning.

3️⃣ READ - read through one section at a time and answer the previously formulated questions. You may need to create new questions if there are gaps.

4️⃣ RECITE - after each section, recall each question and try to answer them from MEMORY. If you can’t, look back at the text/your notes and try again. Don’t move on until you can recite each Q from memory.

5️⃣ REVIEW - once you have finished all sections, go through the overarching questions for each paragraph, and try to answer them from memory. If you can’t, look back, refresh your memory and try again.

WHY DOES THIS WORK?? 🏆
By searching for answers to questions, your brain is more likely to deem the content important, understand it, and therefore remember it.

YOIn English, don’t use the preposition “to” in these situations where the preposition “about” should be used instead! Using “to” in these situations and with certain adjectives makes your English sound unnatural, and in today’s video, I explain a general rule that tells us when to use “about” and when to use “to” with adjectives in English.
Here’s a summary of what I explain in today’s video:
1. If we’re talking about a general feeling or attitude you have towards an idea or the possibility of something happening (but hasn’t happened yet), we use “about” + an -ing verb after an adjective.
“Serious,” “worried,” “weird,” and “passionate” are all examples of adjectives that we typically use “about” with because we can be serious or worried when it comes to a certain topic, but we can’t be serious or worried TO do an action. Here are some more examples of adjectives like this:
🔹enthusiastic: I wasn’t very enthusiastic about giving him half of my closet space.
🔹awkward: She kind of felt awkward about talking to him again after so long.
🔹anxious: I felt kind of anxious about meeting her. (Note: if you say “I felt kind of anxious to meet her,” this means that you felt eager to meet her; but “anxious about” means that you’re nervous to do something)
In all of these examples, the -ing verbs act like nouns. However, keep in mind that this rule doesn’t apply if the subject is “it” instead of a person; for example, you would say “It was weird/awkward to see him again.”
2. If we’re talking about DOING an action or reacting to something, we use “to” plus the base form of the verb. There are a lot more adjectives that we typically use “to” plus the base form of the verb with, and many of these adjectives are very common in spoken English:
🔹surprised: I was surprised to see him.
🔹happy: I would be happy to help you with that.
Essentially, this rule just follows the standard meanings of “about” (= on the subject of) and “to” (= used with verbs and actions), but it’s easy to confuse these two prepositions when speaking, so I hope this video clears up some of the confusion you may have about them 😊
