I thought I would take a minute and let you know how I am doing. I definitely wasn’t prepared for not being able to do anything by myself. Thank God for the amazing husband I married 44 years ago. He has had to do things for me I always thought I would be able to do by myself, (some things in private). I am finally understand why God’s plan included a urostomy and ileostomy. At least he just has to empty containers. And, he hasn’t complained once helping me do absolutely everything! I start outpatient PT therapy on the 23rd, now that I am healed enough, and we have a handicap van to transport me. Then the journey to learn to walk again begins. I will update you on my progress from time to time, and will start posting essential oil information again when my PT, OT, and Dr visits slow down. Thank you to those who have posted, and or messaged me, with support and encouragement. It’s appreciated! #essentially_loving_oils #paraplegic #ileostomy #urostomy #learningtowalkagain

Training w / a stoma and after massive pelvis / abdominal surgery like all situations in life poses risk. It’s possible to understand your body & your situation to be able to find workarounds rather than stop. I was more scared pre surgery than I was afterwards. Because all I heard was how I was never going to get back to training in the same way and if I did make it how long it would take me. The narrative even favours cardio over weights which is kind of crazy to me when you understand the impact cardio actually has on a body that’s already trying to recover. I stayed safe and played my recovery well. My focus was always giving myself what I needed to recover rather than my ego & smashing my smashed up body down further. BUT I didn’t stop training. I adapted instead. I’m not out here fighting against the advice. It’s well meaning. But I am here to tell you if like me you just need to know that there’s a light & hope at the end of the tunnel that you can make your life work for you still…. it’s entirely possible.
