This year, the great state of Oregon officially proclaimed June 14 Portland District USACE Day. (Woohoo!!!)
What a ride it’s been. Our engineering district first set up shop in downtown Portland in 1871 with a mission to improve our region's navigational waterways for economic development.
Now, here we are, 154 years later, doing everything from generating clean energy on the Columbia River to helping protect the Fender’s blue butterfly in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
We've evolved a lot as an organization and are honored every day to continue serving the great people of the Pacific Northwest (and beyond).
Thank you for trusting us to work for you.
June 14 also happens to be the U.S. Army’s (our parent organization) 250th birthday.

Sonny Avichal from USACE’s Norfolk District marked this historic collaboration. This study will explore past, current, and future flood risks across the region, including Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and more. U.Within days of the August 2023 Maui wildfires, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers mobilized in support of FEMA mission assignments. The fires burned 2,400 acres, destroyed 2,200 structures, and claimed 102 lives. USACE delivered rapid damage assessments, temporary power, a temporary school campus, site prep and utility connections for housing, and debris removal in Kula and Lahaina. USACE also built and later deconstructed a temporary debris storage site, relocated all wildfire debris to a permanent location, and fully restored the site. In total, USACE executed $1.3B in recovery missions—nearly half awarded to local Hawaiian organizations and small businesses.

A missão é mais uma importante etapa do acordo que celebraremos com o U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), entidade responsável por gerir todo o Vale do Mississipi desde 1824. O rio que leva o mesmo nome é o mais importante dos EUA, movimentando 400 milhões de toneladas por ano.
A parceria que firmaremos com o corpo de engenheiros do Exército Americano culminará na capacitação dos nossos servidores para transferência de expertise e tecnologia voltadas à configuração de estudos para concessões hidroviárias no país. Dessa forma, nossas equipes poderão incorporar aos projetos da Agência aquilo que tem de mais importante aderente às melhores práticas internacionais para, finalmente, transformar as vias navegáveis brasileiras em hidrovias, por meio do plano de concessões que estamos conduzindo.
