If you’re a parent starting your USMLE journey, especially after a gap, consistency becomes your superpower. When you have a child, life doesn’t follow a perfect study schedule. Kids get sick, routines get disrupted, and unexpected days happen more often than we plan for. That’s why the key is to make the most of the “good phases” the weeks when everyone is healthy, routines are stable, and your mind has the space to focus. Plan ahead. Protect your time. Study intentionally when you can because there will be days when you simply can’t. I restarted my USMLE prep from scratch, five years after graduation, as a new mom during peak COVID. It wasn’t perfect, but consistency carried me through. I’ll keep sharing exactly how I built my routine, what worked, and what didn’t. Follow along this series if you’re an IMG parent chasing this dream too. #Img #womeninmedicine #usmlejourney #pakistani #usmle

USMLE + MBBS (expectation vs. reality) As MBBS students dive into Professional Exams, remember: USMLE prep isn't about opposition, it's about perspective. Different resources, same goal. More students are taking Step 1 before graduation due to competition and the PASS/FAIL format. Begin your journey TODAY, you won't regret the effort. This might sting — but I say it because I want you to win. After my own USMLE struggles, and then mentoring hundreds of students, here’s what I’ve learned: 1️⃣ Your problem isn’t time. It’s focus. You have time but spend half of it context-switching and second-guessing your plan. Or studying passively… 2️⃣ Scrolling during “breaks” isn’t rest — it’s mental clutter. Your brain never actually resets, and that’s why you feel burnt out. We only have so much cognitive energy for each day - don’t waste it on things that do not get you closer to your dream life. 3️⃣ You’re hiding behind content review. Watching more videos won’t help if you’re not actively testing yourself. Many research studies show us that the best way to learn is actively - engage with the material, test yourself, teach yourself out loud. 4️⃣ You don’t need 6+ resources. You need 2-3 resources you use well. Simplicity beats overwhelm every time. Knowing even one high yield resource in depth will always advance you further, faster. 5️⃣ Perfect study plans are an illusion. Stop tweaking your schedule and start taking action. Progress > perfection. Life will always get in the way. Instead of wasting time worrying about it, continue to make progress. 6️⃣ You think you’re a “bad test taker,” but it’s often a strategy issue. No one taught you how to think like the test. That’s fixable. Test-taking issues can increase you score significantly without any extra studying of content. Learn to think like the test writers. 7️⃣ The most successful students aren’t the smartest — they’re the most consistent. They protect their time, study with intention, and recover when they fall off. If this hit home 👉 I write a free weekly newsletter with scientifically proven strategies for better learning and USMLE prep. 📩 Comment “STRATEGY” below or click the link in bio to join.
