It was the first time in Open Era history that two players had contested three Grand Slam finals against each other in the same calendar season — Sinner had won Wimbledon, Alcaraz had won Roland Garros after saving three championship points, and now Alcaraz was taking New York. His sixth Grand Slam at 22 years old. Sinner stood at the trophy ceremony and said: “You were better than me. Enjoy it. It’s a great moment.” The rivalry is 10-5 to Alcaraz. The season was 2-2.
