Study SMARTER, not harder or longer! ✅🏆💯👩🏽‍🎓 - The Hack? 📕 Active Recall + Spaced Repetition 📕 1️⃣ Revise or learn content through techniques that requires you to retrieve information when prompted, without reading/looking at your notes. Examples include: Flashcards, Blurting, Practice Questions. 2️⃣ Review this content at regular, increasing intervals. For example: Say you learn something in class that day. You would then review the content… —> when you get home from school —> again that weekend —> the weekend after —> in a fortnight —> in a month —> in 3 months. 1️⃣Fix your mindset to English The belief that you can’t study for English, are not naturally talented or creative enough to do well, don’t have enough resources or have a bad teacher all were excuses which led to me procrastinating and avoiding English study. 2️⃣Don’t rely fully on memorisation In year 11, I used the teachers notes and written out essay and focused on memorising it completely. I then regurgitated this essay and scored only 36% because I did not answer the question. Instead, the advice I would give is to build a base essay and then practice adapting it to past exam questions. 3️⃣You’re not going to do well without practice and planning If you think you are some creative genius who can come up with an essay and creative on the spot, then you’re wrong for 99% of students. You need to be practicing to past exam questions and planning throughly for your essay and composition to remove the stress of making something up on the spot. 4️⃣Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback - drop the ego In year 11 I was so timid to ask for feedback that I never knew how I could improve. You need to view feedback with a growth mindset rather than taking it personally. One strategy I would advise is to ask your teacher, “what is wrong/a weakness in my writing.” This way you immediately get to the point of getting constructive feedback. 5️⃣Focus on your strengths, while identifying your weaknesses I learnt that doubling down on my strengths allowed for maximisation of English marks. For me I was much stronger on persuasive than creative writing, so I tried to write persuasive texts over creative texts whenever I could while using this identified weakness of creative writing to concisely get feedback from my teacher on how I could improve. The result was I got 85% on every persuasive and still improved my creative writing. Follow me for more English ATAR tips. #atar #english #study #wace #vce

Draw diagrams, link ideas together, add in worked examples. I prefer handwriting as I get less distracted than when I’m on my laptop. . 📺 Watch YT videos - this is a great way to visualise concepts, which is often needed in Science. It also is way way more fun than reading a textbook! My fave YT channels are Crash Course, Amoeba Sisters, Minute Physics. . 📝 Do Quizzes - science is all about application! The best way to learn how to apply your knowledge is by practice. . ⁉️ Be curious - don’t accept things at face value. Ask WHY; and be interested in learning WHY. It’s much easier to remember and so so much more satisfying when you dive deep into the science, and understand the logic behind why things happen, rather than just scratching the surface.
