All great exercises and great content by him I loved the days when @millershanem at @crossfit_athletes_arena @athletes_arena had us do plyometrics & vertical jump training on the Vertimax! Especially on the last set when he let us take off the belt and resistant bands… Felt like we were literally flying through the air bc the bodyweight was just so EASY after doing heavy resistance! Comment “POWER” for a free week of vertical jump training! Follow @mtaperformance_ How heavy should I lift if I want to develop lower body power in a squat? Well, it depends on the exercise… ⁃ Power = force x velocity In a squat, we typically see Peak Power @50-60% 1RM However, in a Power clean, we see peak power at around 80-100% 1 RM A few things to consider, 1.) The stronger you are… 2.) the more dynamic the movement… 3.) the bigger the muscle group… The more the peak power curve shifts to the right. This means you’re able to move both relative and absolute loads at a higher speed suggesting a higher percentage of 1RM is needed to achieve peak power! To simplify stick to 1-5 reps per set - typically stay between 50-90% 1RM (max speed on all reps) Take max rest between sets Don’t expect to leave the gym ‘feeling’ like you worked super hard and get a good sweat as its about high output for short periods as opposed to prolonged efforts!
