TIApple is banning vibe coders. Let me explain.
Apple just blocked Replit’s “Vibe Code” and pulled the “Anything” app from the App Store entirely. Here’s the actual reason why.
These apps are powerful because they let you build, launch, and test other apps right inside of them, all using AI. Vibe coding. In many ways, they allow you to completely bypass the App Store review process while you’re in development.
Most people aren’t going to keep their app in this development state forever. You’re always expected to eventually move it into a real app that goes through the App Store review process. But it’s incredibly helpful for getting something out there quickly without dealing with Apple’s review process.
And that review process has been getting brutal lately. Approval times have ballooned from 24 hours to as long as 30 days, largely because vibe coding has caused an 84% jump in App Store submissions in a single quarter.
This is what Apple actually cannot stand. The fact that there might be a channel that bypasses the App Store review process and, more importantly, doesn’t allow Apple to capture any of their revenue.
So Apple is hiding behind a 15 year old guideline that says apps can’t execute code that changes their own functionality. They’re not banning them outright. They’re just blocking all updates so they slowly rot. Replit alone has already gone from first to third in the developer tools chart just because of this. The Anything app got pulled entirely.
But here’s the ultimate kicker. Apple just added Claude and ChatGPT to Xcode for vibe coding. So vibe coding is fine according to Apple, when Apple controls it and takes a cut. When someone else does it and cuts them out, that’s when there’s a problem.
This is the same playbook Apple has been running for decades. Block the competition, call it a guideline violation, and protect the walled garden.
The only question is, are they going to be able to defend this, or will regulators force them to stop? What do you think?
