Okay I admit that we don't get the same kind of temperatures that those places get but if you really want to get away from the crowds and the noise, there is no better place in the world than the Outer Hebrides Scotland, IMHO. Yes we do get good weather now and then. It's definitely not all wind and rain here on the Isle of Lewis Scotland. We just make the very most of the better days that we do get. We have lived in many places in the UK and abroad but no where would tear us away from here. Have you ever visited the Outer Hebrides? It might just surprise you. . . . . . #islandlife🌴 #lovescotland #outerhebrides

Luskentyre Beach, Isle of Harris. You’d be forgiven for thinking that Luskentyre Beach, on the western coast of South Harris in the Outer Hebrides, is the sort of place that exists only in the travel brochures of the South Pacific. With its expansive stretches of white sand and impossibly stunning blue-green water, it’s little surprise that Luskentyre has been rated one of the world’s top beaches, surpassing the Virgin Islands and some of the finest beaches in Italy and Spain. Luskentyre Beach, which is carved into the island on the edge of a wide bay at the mouth of a three-mile-wide estuary, is bordered on either side by vast sand dunes which can obscure the views from the road. It’s well-worth persisting to find a viewpoint, such as the one just past Seilebost School which offers a fantastic view north along the sand dunes. A coastal path heads north-west to Tràigh Rosamol, another impressive, unspoilt beach with mesmerising views. Despite its beauty, Luskentyre is rarely busy: you can easily spend an afternoon wandering along the sea line and see hardly another soul. source:hiddenscotland.co #andythehighlander #highlandertours #scotland #luskentyre

Isle of Kerrera is one of my favourite islands in the Inner Hebrides. Just a short hop and skip from Oban, this beautiful island remains one of Scotland’s most underrated islands. While many visitors rush off to larger neighbours like Isle of Mull, Kerrera is often quietly overlooked. That’s part of its charm. You can leave the busy harbour town behind and, within minutes, find yourself surrounded by rolling green hills, quiet shoreline paths, and sweeping views back towards the mainland. Getting there couldn’t be easier. A small passenger ferry runs regularly from Oban’s Gallanach Road. The crossing takes just 5 to 10 minutes across the Sound of Kerrera, and costs only a few pounds for a return ticket. There’s no need to book you simply turn up and hop aboard. The boat runs frequently throughout the day, making it perfect for a spontaneous trip, whether you’re heading over for a few hours of walking or a full day of exploring. One of the best things about Kerrera? You can walk the entire island in a day. The circular route takes you along rugged coastline, hidden coves and endless sea views back toward the mainland and Mull. It’s the perfect slow adventure. And then there’s the castle. At the southern tip stand the dramatic ruins of Gylen Castle, perched on cliffs above the sea. Built in 1582 by the Clan MacDougall, the tower house was designed more for prestige than defence, though its position is strikingly strategic. In 1647, during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, it was attacked and burned by forces allied with the Parliamentarian navy and it was never fully restored. Today, its roofless walls frame the sky, with waves crashing below, making it one of the most atmospheric castle ruins on the west coast. Manifesting long hot summer days after a couple of wild, wet and windy days… Though to be fair, we’ve had a pretty exceptional winter (compared with our east coast friends)! Harris: When it’s beautiful, it’s REALLY beautiful. When it’s wild, it’s REALLY wild! And I love both versions, but am ready for the shift in seasons and the shift in momentum for me. 🌊 **The Hebrides: Scotland’s Wild Islands of Legend 🇬🇧** You’ve seen dramatic coastlines… but the Hebrides feel ancient 👀 Stretching along Scotland’s western edge, the Hebrides form the largest archipelago in the United Kingdom — divided into the Inner and Outer Hebrides, each with its own rugged identity. Towering Atlantic cliffs. Wind-swept moors. Hidden coves shaped by storms for thousands of years. But the real power of the Hebrides isn’t just in the landscape — it’s in the history. These islands have been inhabited since the Mesolithic era, shaped by Celtic clans, Norse Vikings, and later Scottish and British rule. Their names still echo that layered past — known in Gaelic as **Innse Gall** and in Old Norse as **Suðreyjar**, the “Southern Isles.” Today, the Hebrides remain one of the last strongholds of Scottish Gaelic culture. Gaelic literature still thrives. Traditional music drifts through village halls. Ancient ruins stand quietly against endless horizons. This isn’t just a destination. It’s where language, legend, and landscape intertwine. Would you explore the Outer Hebrides’ raw wilderness… or the Inner Isles’ historic villages first? 🌍 Follow @TrenchIslands as we uncover the world’s most powerful island stories — from Celtic strongholds to remote ocean frontiers. #Hebrides #Scotland #ScottishIslands #InnerHebrides #OuterHebrides #ScottishGaelic #IslandLife #CelticHistory #UKTravel #WildScotland #AtlanticCoast #TravelShorts #HiddenIslands #TrenchIslands

The air in Scotland feels different, it has a magical sense of healing and so visiting the more remote parts can be so good for the soul and “filling your cup” Time for me to start planning a return to the Outer Hebrides and walking along my favourite beach, Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris. Where the sand is soft and water is clear and vibrant. The plan is to do the whole Hebridean Way in May 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I can already taste that fresh air 😮‍💨🤌🏻 #scotlandroadtrip #scotlandphotographer #scotlandphotography

We'll be back on the mainland which still has magnificent beaches and don't even get me started on the wildlife. Episode 9 of my road trip is imminent and then I MIGHT stop yapping on about the Isle of Harris... Except that will never happen because it is my one true love. Put it on your list pronto 🤘✨️
