This is congenital heart disease… I recorded this as a cute moment of Reggie sleeping. Looking back, now I know the warning signs, it’s not as cute as it seems. Look closely… 🫁 His breathing rate is fast - whilst this can be normal in babies, for Reggie it stays fast and doesn’t settle down for long 👶🏻 His head is bobbing - he’s using extra muscles in his neck and chest to help breathe 👃🏼 His nostrils are flaring - showing he is struggling to get full breaths in ✋🏽Pink/Purple hands and feet (not visible on this video) - showing circulation was becoming an issue 2 days later his hands swelled up and I knew something wasn’t right, I went to A&E and the day later he was diagnosed with two holes in his heart. I’m posting this to raise awareness, because I have a platform of predominantly mums - on the surface it’s hard to spot these symptoms, especially in the cold months when we don’t see their bare chest. I didn’t know these signs and thankfully we got help before Reggie became worse. To any mamas going through this too, I’m with you 🤍 #vsd #congenitalheartdisease #vsdawareness

21 week scan update 🤍 At our scan, they found a small intramuscular Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) a tiny hole in the muscle wall of baby’s heart. Hearing anything about your baby’s heart is enough to make it all feel overwhelming, especially when you’re lying there just hoping everything is “normal.” But here’s what we’ve learned so far as a mum and dad, because even though I am a midwife everything you know just goes out the window. It’s a small hole in the muscular part of the heart, which is actually the most common and often the most reassuring type. Many of these close on their own during pregnancy or within the first year of life. And in a lot of cases, it simply means monitoring, not intervention. We’ve been referred to a fetal specialist for a more detailed scan, which is standard, just to get a clearer picture and confirm everything. If you’re reading this because you’ve heard similar words at your scan, know there is support and love around you, and so many of these stories turn out okay 🤍 I never shared to many people about Parkes CPAM but since having this podcast I realize so many people feel alone in pregnancy and just want information. A muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD) in a fetus is a hole in the muscular part of the heart’s inter ventricular septum . 👉Key Findings on Fetal Echo: ⭐️Location: Found in the muscular septum (mid-septal or apical) rather than the membranous (upper) septum. ⭐️Appearance: They may appear as a single or multiple (“Swiss hole in the four-chamber view. ⭐️Doppler Findings: Color Doppler shows bidirectional, shunt-like blood flow (red and blue colors) across the septum. 心臓の穴について（そうやくん1歳10ヶ月現在） 妊娠34週ごろ、 今まで毎回「なんの問題もありません。順調ですね」と言われていた検診で 先生二人がかりで深刻な顔をして告げられた 「心臓に穴があります」 「腎臓が片方しかないかもしれない」 「鎖肛かもしれない」 ショックで何度も涙しました。 泣いても何も変わらないのはわかっているけど 涙が止まらなかったことを覚えています。 そして出産してみると やはり心室中隔欠損症（VSD）穴は空いていた。 そして心房中隔欠損症（ASD）でもありました。 ちなみに VSDは最も一般的な先天性心疾患だそうで（全先天性心疾患の約20%） 状況を投稿したときに友だちからたくさんメッセージをもらいまいした。 結構多いようです🥺 今回は半年ぶりの循環器科の検診。 また一回り小さくなったそうで2mm程度。 心臓超音波検査（エコー）をしました。暴れて大変だった😂 本当は2歳になる前に閉じて欲しかったけど 広がってないだけありがたいね。 次はまた1年後に検診です。どうかこのまま閉鎖傾向が継続できますように🥺 先天性疾患は色々あるものの 絶賛イヤイヤ期（やるやる期）も始まり 大変あ日々ですが、 元気いっぱい過ごせることに感謝！だね🥺 #心室中隔欠損症 #VSD #先天性心疾患 #鎖肛 #腎臓
