The rider is using a hydrofoil board, which consists of a small board attached to a long mast with underwater wings (the foil). By using a rhythmic pumping motion with their legs, the rider generates lift and propulsion, allowing them to "fly" above the water's surface without a motor or sail.
Key Equipment
Hydrofoil Board: The platform the rider stands on, often made of lightweight carbon fiber.
Mast and Foil: The vertical strut and underwater wings that create lift.
Handlebars: Some setups, like the one in your image, include handlebars for added stability, similar to a "Hydroflyer".
Safety Gear: Riders typically wear a life jacket (PFD) and sometimes a helmet for protection.
