THKenshin got the message:

Another clan cut off Shingen’s salt supply.

In 1761, Ahmad Shah Abdali defeated the Marathas at the Third Battle of Panipat — one of the bloodiest battles in Indian history.
But here is the part history often skips.
Abdali did not march on Delhi to rule India.
He did not stay to build an empire.
He did not replace Indian powers with Afghan rule.
Instead, he left.
Why?
Because India at the time was not one political entity — it was a battlefield of rival ambitions.
The Maratha Confederacy was powerful, but overstretched.
Rajput states were divided.
Many North Indian rulers chose neutrality or survival over unity.
Some even supported Abdali against the Marathas.
Abdali’s victory was made possible not by Afghan strength alone —
but by Indian disunity.
This is why he could defeat the largest army of the subcontinent…
and still find no stable authority worth ruling afterward.
His invasion did not create India’s weakness.
It revealed it.
And the real tragedy?
Panipat did not bring foreign rule —
it delayed Indian recovery.
The power vacuum left behind eventually benefited the British, not Abdali.
History is uncomfortable when told honestly.
It has no heroes — only decisions and consequences.

KIAjatashatru
ruled Magadh in the 5th century BCE
and is remembered as one of the most ruthless
and intelligent kings of ancient India.
His rise to power itself was
marked by betrayal and violence.
He seized the throne by imprisoning
his own father, King Bimbisara.
Ancient Buddhist and Jain texts say Bimbisara
was left to die in captivity, making Ajatashatru a
symbol of ambition without restraint.
After becoming king, Ajatashatru focused on relentless expansion.
He waged long and brutal wars against Kosala and the Vajji (Vrijji) confederacy.
To defeat the Vajji republic, he used deception and psychological warfare.
He sent spies, created internal divisions, and weakened them before attacking.
Ajatashatru also introduced new and terrifying weapons.
Like war engines, stone-throwers, and
siege devices designed to break fortified cities.
Cities that resisted were starved, destroyed, or forced into submission.
Victory for Ajatashatru meant total control, not reconciliation.
Despite his cruelty, he was a brilliant military innovator.
He strengthened Rajagriha’s fortifications and
laid foundations for Magadha’s future dominance.
Later in life, Ajatashatru was said to be haunted by guilt,
especially for killing his father.
He eventually supported Buddhism,
seeking redemption—but never undoing his past.
