PIWeather is going to happen. The most you can do is prepare as much as you can for the worst and hope for the best. Our town's infrastructure is old and our area in general does not typically get these types of storms. There's a high probability that we will be without water from the city.
Here are other tasks I completed to prepare:
*Filled the cars with gas
*Covered all spigots - if you don't have the fancy covers, wrap them with rags and a plastic bag and seal with tape. If the spigot is coming straight up from the ground, cover with a bucket.
*Make sure all your rechargeable batteries are charged.
*Drip your faucet with a steady stream. Drops will not be enough. Water movement prevents full freezing of pipes.
*Open cabinet doors under sinks/faucets.
*Have candles and lighters in each room used. *Close doors to rooms not in use.
*Apply towels to the base of exterior doors to block drafts.
*Deep water plants or relocate them indoors.
