* No one takes a vacation… almost ever. Your first year, managers will deny almost every request you make to take even a week off and generally after your first year, you get 1 full week (5 business days) off during the summer, and a handful of long weekends. There’s also an order to it - where multiple people can’t take the same week off and more senior people pick their vacations first… so you basically get whatever is left over
* Getting out before midnight is considered “early”. I knew it was going to be a rough ride when talking to one of the VPs I said I had been leaving at 2-3am every night that week… and their response was ok i’ll try to aim to let you get out by midnight a few nights… WHAT
* Forget the freshman 15, I gained 20+ pounds my first year on the job mostly as a function of rarely exercising, not sleeping, not getting my steps in, and eating almost every meal at my desk.. fun!
* The vest memes are accurate, almost everyone at least owns a vest and most wear one at least on a weekly basis. One of my good friends used to refer to his vest as his suit of armor 😂
