The medical name for split ends is actually trichoptilosis 🤣
It refers to the splitting or fraying of the hair shaft, usually due to excessive heat, chemical or mechanical stress
➡️How can you reduce split ends?
- Try to avoid over brushing hair. The idea that hair needs to be brushed 100 times a day is a myth. Repeated forceful combing results in mechanical trauma to hair strands resulting in split ends
- Reduce use of heated styling tools, if you are going to use them then stick to a lower heat setting & use them sparingly I.e 1-2 times a week
- Regular hair trims is one of the best ways to treat split ends because it essentially physically removes them. The frequency of trims varies according to hair type as some hair types grow slower than others.
