Who’s hungry for some @pi00ala pizza?! I am! Are @sharktankabc hungry too? Tune in tonite! #whyisign #askmewhyisign Repost off @sharktankabc We’ve never seen a pitch like this before! Find out if the Sharks get a sign to make a deal on the season finale of #SharkTank, tonight at 10/9c on ABC and stream on Hulu. Transcript: Oh, wow, Hello Sharks. I’m Melody and I’m Russ, I’m Tasia, I’m Ryland, And together we are deaf and CODS family owned business. Kota means children of deaf adults. That’s me and Tasia. We’re here seeking 200,000 in exchange for 5% of our company. but because I was deaf, no one would hire me. So I trained in Italy and became a master Neapolitan pizza maker. So almost 15 years ago ago, these two crazy kids decided to open up their very own Neapolitan pizzeria. And after many years of watching our parents sling dough, we decided to band together as a family of four in the form of frozen pizza with @pi00ala. Pi00ala is the first frozen, handmade, globally inspired Neapolitan pizza company. It’s light, chewy, crisp, restaurant quality pizza made in minutes within the comforts of your own homes. Each pizza is hand stretched and made from imported Italian double zero flour, which is considered to be the gold standard in dough making. Pi00ala isn’t just about pizza. Although our pizzas are amazing, We’ve also created a mission that matters. We’re providing job opportunities for the deaf community and building businesses that are inclusive and impactful. We put in the work, the passion, and the time. And now we’re here looking for the right shark to help us scale. Let’s make some serious dough. Great job.

(Sim-com for short) typically waters down both languages and can feel like language deprivation. Everyone deserves better so I gave both ASL users and English users their full space here. youfeelmegang. This video is signed in front of a green screen with a childhood photo of me in my mom’s arms as the background. Captions are on screen throughout. 🙌🏽 Tonight around 6pm, I'll have another ASL cover. Keep your eyes on the page. ✨ I’ve been working behind the scenes with several Deaf creators, artists, and professionals on cinematic original content. Collabs, covers, conversations, vlogs. Names coming soon. I’m committed to highlighting Deaf artists, creators, and professionals on the platforms I’ve built from scratch ➡️ becoming a home for the Deaf community and many more. Amplifying visibility while staying my most authentic self. To the Deaf community 🫶🏽 thank you for accepting me as a CODA, as a human being, and as the man I am. Thank you, Stacy, for inviting me into #WhyISign. I am honored, grateful, and excited to keep advocating for the community that raised me. 💚 What’s your #WhyISign story? Share it with Stacy. We are all part of Deaf community, and no matter what our backgrounds or what we wear, we are all equal. My girl lights up for music and I love that. She enjoys music, just in a different way than us hearies. Common misconception and presumption is that Deaf people cannot “listen” to music or enjoy it. They can, in different ways. With or without hearing aids, CI’s or Bahas. CC for the music: I started To write you letters But I wanted To be more clever I wanted to get down and sweet talk you Hey baby But just like a baby I could not talk And I tried to come closer but could not walk And I think of it every night How I just could not get it right If we ever come close again I know what I’ll say then, yeah #DeafKidsRocks #asl #whyisign #deafawareness accessmatters

Flashback to a very special moment… I received a name sign! For friends who might not know, receiving a name sign from the Deaf community means that you are seen as a friend/ ally / community advocate. As I continue to work to learn more ASL and check my own privileges, I consider this a huge honor. Thank you @mikeyisjusssayin and @theririshow_tv ❤️❤️ Plus, there really are no words to describe experiencing acts of inclusion and belonging. ❤️🙌🏾🤟🏾 #whyisign #community #learnasl #friends #inclusion

Instead of trying to become someone else's voice, best become the microphone. <O/ Transcript: I wanna discuss something that's been popping up in the deaf community recently and it's not unique to us, all marginalized people will recognize this. The word "ally." We see it a lot, but what does it really mean. Well here's the dictionary definition: "One that is associated with another as a helper; a person or group that provides assistance or support in an ongoing effort or struggle." Problem is we often have people showing up and saying, oh, I'm an ally! But their behavior doesn't match. For example, in the book world, we sometimes get hearing writers who say, "Oh I want to include a deaf character for the purpose of "raising awareness." Or sometimes they say "to give voice to the marginalized person. "Raising awareness," "giving voice", these things sound good. They're probably well-intended. But that doesn't make them allyship. If someone really wanted to raise awareness about the deaf community or ASL they would have to be getting people's attention and bringing it BACK to the community, showing them how to interact with the community. Same thing with "giving a voice to". Instead of trying to become someone else's voice, best become the microphone. Amplify the voices we already have. Truth is, it's hard to be an ally because you have to get used to being the second man. In second place, and following the lead (of the marginalized). And that's tough especially for folks who are used to having a lot of privilege. Because they're used to being first! To being prioritized. But allyship really means taking a step into that supportive role...which is in the back. Allyship can also be hard if you're new! And you show up and you're so motivated and ready to help and people say "wait! you need to learn this first. You need to see what we actually need." That can feel frustrating, disappointing, slow. But....that's the work! So I made an ASL rhyme to help remember what allyship is. Ally: help, assist support, amplify. If it's not in the rhyme, it's not allyship! Speaking over, speaking for, making money off of. That's not it!
