If you have ADHD, your brain has lower baseline dopamine in the prefrontal cortex.
Which means you’re constantly looking for predictable reward.
So when a song hits?
Your brain goes:
“Oh. We found it. This works. Don’t lose it.”
I used to think I was just obsessive.
I’d listen to one workout song 30 times in a row.
One study playlist.
One driving song.
But when I learned ADHD is a regulation issue, not a motivation issue, everything clicked.
When you listens to the same song
• It’s a guaranteed dopamine spike
• Predictability calms your nervous system
• It regulates your emotional state
• It gives perfect stimulation (not too much, not too little)
• It becomes a cue for executive function
You’re not weird.
You’re regulating.

GESome people really think we just let him play with knives all alone or that we haven’t built up to the things he’s doing now.
Why would I keep him from all the risks in life when instead I can teach him how to handle them safely under supervision? I wouldn’t intentionally leave him alone with heavy weights - but if by some accident he finds himself somewhere with them (which is common for kids to get into trouble) I feel safer knowing he’s been exposed and knows what to do with them.
Raising strong, capable children is our responsibility as parents - though it seems many would rather bark about others’ parenting styles and perceived faults online than worry about their own lives. 🤷
