Word problems can be a doozy especially when you introduce multiplication and division into the mix.
The best way I found to teach word problems is to break it down into “4 squares” that way you can see exactly where the kiddo is struggling and help them.
This problem in specific, I noticed a lot of kiddos just want to add 3 + 4 but once they break it down, represent it using a drawing I see the light bulbs go off and they can understand why it’s multiplication 3 x 4 and not 3 + 4. #iteachthird #iteachsecond #tpt #elementarymath #mathteacher #wordproblems
