You can still visit the first website. It's not nostalgia. It's proof. The web has a living fossil. The first website was published at CERN in 1991 and explained what the World Wide Web is. It remains accessible as a historical record. Quick hits: - Standards outlive trends when the interface is simple. - The web began as documentation, not entertainment. +3 The World Wide Web (WWW or W3) is an information system, invented in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee at CERN, allowing documents and resources to be accessed over the internet using HTTP protocols. It transformed global communication via web browsers, HTML, and URLs, turning the internet into a accessible, interconnected network of billions of pages. YouTube +1 Key Facts About the WWW: Definition: A system of linked, hypertext documents (websites) accessed via the internet. Inventor: Sir Tim Berners-Lee (1989). Key Technologies: HTTP (protocol), HTML (markup language), and URLs (web addresses). Difference from Internet: The Internet is the underlying infrastructure (networks), while the WWW is the service/content running on it. Evolution: Began with the first website in 1991; revolutionized by the Mosaic browser in 1993. YouTube +2 While often associated with web addresses, the "www" prefix is now mostly optional, acting as a historical indicator for web servers. Wikipedia blacklists Archive.today, starts removing 695,000 archive links The English-language edition of Wikipedia is blacklisting Archive.today after the controversial archive site was used to direct a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack against a blog.In the course of discussing whether Archive.today should be deprecated because of the DDoS, Wikipedia editors discovered that the archive site altered snapshots of webpages to insert the name of the blogger who was targeted by the DDoS. The alterations were apparently fueled by a grudge against the blogger over a post that described how the Archive.today maintainer hid their identity behind several aliases. There is consensus to immediately deprecate archive.today, and, as soon as practicable, add it to the spam blacklist (or create an edit filter that blocks adding new links), and remove all links to it, stated an update today on Wikipedia's Archive.today discussion. There is a strong consensus that Wikipedia should not direct its readers towards a website that hijacks users' computers to run a DDoS attack (see WP:ELNO#3). Additionally, evidence has been presented that archive.today's operators have altered the content of archived pages, rendering it unreliable. #wikipedia #blacklists #archive #today #starts #video #instagram #content
