Some days caregiving feels like a full-time medical job with no breaks. Wound care. Pressure sores. Infections. Amputations. This is the part people don’t prepare you for, the daily attention it takes just to prevent things from getting worse. It’s exhausting. It’s emotional. It’s repetitive. And still… we show up. Because his comfort matters. His safety matters. And that smile at the end reminds me why I do this. If you’re a caregiver fighting invisible battles every day, you’re not alone. 🤍. #caregiverlife #caregiversupport #familycaregiver #woundcare #caregiverawareness

Wound care appt #2 today! ❤️🙏 Labs yesterday all came back with good numbers and my phosphorus + calcium levels are where they should be, however talking today at my wound care appt my doctor wants me to have a consult with my local surgeon who had previously done debridements (helps remove dead/damaged tissue to help heal) on my wounds to see if its possible to remove the calcium as I still have a large spot on my stomach where the current wound is. He also said he feels its possible with having calcium deposits this will happen in the future. Calciphylaxis is so rare theres still so much that we dont know, but we're just trying to keep moving forward. I'd taken a week off of the gym just to see if it helped, but there's been so improvement so just going to listen to my body and keep focusing on bandage changes daily. Shared more on my stories today, but wanted to share this here as a moment to look back on and for those of you who had reached out. Thank you all for the support & prayers, it means more to @discoveringdanny & I than we could say! Your kid falls, there’s blood, and your brain blanks. Do you clean it? Cover it? Leave it open to air out? Wound care shouldn’t be confusing-but a lot of the advice we grew up with is outdated. Let’s set the record straight: ❌ No more hydrogen peroxide. It can actually damage healthy tissue (and let’s be honest-it stings way more than it helps). ✅ Clean with gentle soap and warm water instead. Effective and painless. ✅ Keep the wound moist (yes, moist!) with plain petroleum jelly (vaseline) to help skin cells regenerate. ✅ Cover it with a bandage and change it daily or if it gets dirty. Bonus: letting your kid pick the Band-Aid makes things go way smoother. These updates may sound simple, but they really help reduce scarring, promote healing, and prevent infection.   And if you’re not sure when a wound needs medical care vs. a little TLC at home? Comment or DM WOUND CARE and I’ll send you my YouTube video that walks you through it all. It might just save you an urgent care visit. Time heals all wounds ❤️🙏😭 Today after 5 months of being back in wound care, 9 appointments, debridement surgery, no longer in remission, life put on hold, tears, pain, fears, unknowns, trial + error, setbacks, questioning if I'd heal, and every single emotion throughout - MY DOCTOR CLEARED MY MAIN WOUND AS HEALED. 😭😭 I do still have some very small tunneling above, but it's minimal & my doctor feels that it's only a matter of time before it will heal, but to go back in 3 weeks if needed. He also feels that with Calciphylaxis, it's possible that I'll have this happen again in the future, but since it's so rare, we're just not sure. Thank you all for going through this with me, for your prayers, grace, kind words, love, & making me feel like i wasn't alone when I couldn't see the end of the tunnel. Love you all & im just so grateful to still be here fighting! Also, thank you to @discoveringdanny for always being right by my side & in this fight with me! I'm so lucky for such amazing people in my corner! ❤️ (More behind the scenes on my story from today) #Calciphylaxis #calcium #woundcare #awareness #raredisease #love #husband #health #healing #skin #survivor #weightloss #life #happy ##keepgoing #dontgiveup #fighter #motivation ##fitfam #goals #lifeupdate

If your parent is in the hospital, you need to understand observation status vs inpatient admission — because it directly affects whether Medicare will cover rehab after discharge. Here’s how it actually works. Under traditional Medicare Part A, coverage for a skilled nursing facility (SNF) typically requires: • A 3-day inpatient hospital stay • Three consecutive midnights • The admission must be officially classified as inpatient • The patient must require daily skilled care (PT, IV meds, wound care, etc.) Time spent in the ER or under “observation status” usually does NOT count toward that 3-midnight requirement — even if they are physically in a hospital bed. How is status decided? It’s based on physician documentation and medical necessity criteria. Hospitals use standardized tools (like InterQual or MCG guidelines) to determine whether someone meets inpatient criteria versus observation. It is not arbitrary — but it is documentation-driven. Can it be changed? Sometimes. If you believe the patient’s condition meets inpatient criteria, you can say: “Can you review whether this meets inpatient admission criteria under Medicare guidelines?” If the clinical picture supports it, a physician can change the status. If it does not meet criteria, it likely will not be changed — because audits and penalties exist for inappropriate admissions. If discharge happens and rehab is denied, Medicare patients have the right to appeal. Hospitals must provide appeal information upon request. What does Medicare actually cover? Medicare Part A typically covers: • Up to 100 days in a skilled nursing facility per benefit period • Days 1–20 are usually covered in full • Days 21–100 require a daily coinsurance • Coverage only applies if the 3-midnight inpatient rule is met • The patient must continue to require skilled care If the rule is not met, rehab may become private pay or billed under different insurance rules. This is not a loophole. It’s federal policy. The question to ask early is: “Are they admitted as inpatient or observation, and does this qualify for the 3-midnight rule for SNF coverage?” Ask early. Not at discharge. Save this. Send it to someone caring for aging parent

AD. Your skin is your body’s first line of defence, a natural barrier that keeps out harmful bacteria and protects you from the world around you. However, even the smallest cut or scrape can compromise that barrier, allowing bacteria to enter and potentially cause infection. When bacteria begin to multiply faster than your immune system can manage, healing slows down and infection can take hold. It begins silently: contamination, then colonisation, often without any visible signs.

Left untreated, infection can spread deeper into the body, leading to serious complications. That’s why proper wound care from the very beginning is essential. Cleaning away dirt and bacteria, then protecting the wound, helps maintain a safe environment for undisturbed healing. Clean. Protect. Heal.💙

Want to reduce scarring after a cut or wound? The key is proper wound care in the first few weeks. Cleaning the wound, keeping it moist with petroleum jelly, protecting it while it heals, and using silicone scar sheets after the skin closes can significantly reduce how visible a scar becomes. These simple steps help control inflammation and collagen formation, which are the main drivers of scar tissue. #scarprevention #woundcare #scarhealing #medicaleducation
