You don't need a massive marketing budget to launch a paid tier. 💸 The biggest mistake writers make is thinking they need to build a complex sales funnel to get their first 10 paying subscribers. In reality, the most effective strategy is a zero-budget, direct approach. Find the handful of readers who never miss a post, who reply to your emails, and who actively engage with your ideas. Reach out to them individually. Tell them what you're building and invite them to support your best work. Direct outreach beats passive hoping every single time. Save this to remind yourself: keep it simple, do things that don't scale, and start asking. 📌

I kept thinking I was doing it wrong. All that strategy, all that setup— and the dashboard barely moved. Turns out the writing most people skip over is the writing that actually gets paid for consistently. Not because it's creative. Because it solves a problem most businesses have every single day. Because when I first thought about starting a writing business, I was driving Uber to make ends meet. One day, a rider who was a full-time copywriter told me I should take a copywriting course. The cost? $300 But I did it have $30 to spare, much less $300. And all the legit-looking ghostwriting courses were even more expensive. So I just decided to figure it all out on my own. Which took a long-ass time. [Like, the longest ass.] 9 years later, I haven’t forgotten the pain of NOT having that $300. I decided then if I ever made a course, I’d keep the cost manageable for people who might be in the same position I was. Ready to start building your writing business with $10K clients? Comment WORD and I’ll show you how.

Last weekend, I read a stat that only 4-9% of all freelance writers earn more than $100K USD. Instead of feeling great to be in that top percent, I felt outraged. If you’re a freelance writer or editor still making under $100K/year, here’s 7 ways to start changing that: 1. Diversify your pipelines. If you’re only relying on referrals, you’ll stay stuck. 2. Give yourself a raise. Start charging based on your experience and outcomes, not what you’ve charged for 5 years. 3. Go for bigger clients. Bigger clients won’t magically find you. You’ve got to find them. 4. Do more retainer work. It may not feel as sexy but knowing you have guaranteed money coming in is a game changer. Perfect for you if you’re a copywriter or social media writer. 5. Ask for reviews/testimonials early and often. And if you can get a video testimonial, even better. 6. Keep updating your portfolio. You’ll build instant credibility with clients who can pay more. 7. Network, network, network with other freelancers. They’re not your competition. They might be your breakthrough. You might be doing some of these already. Great. Find one you’re not doing yet and add it to your systems. Want more ideas? Follow or visit my links.

I was costing myself 5-figure opportunities because of one reason: Not talking about my little writing business in public. But just “hoping” success would come along. Most freelance writers and editors are just waiting for someone to hand success to them. But that’s not how the world works. Not now. Not ever. But you’ll keep scrolling because it’s “too cringe” to post about your business. You’re more worried about friends and family judging you than you are building a future for yourself. Stop giving a fluck what they say and start building the life you want for yourself. My self-paced course “Word Up” shows you how to start landing 5-figure clients and build a 6-figure writing income with 28 lessons, all with practical steps to take for each lesson. If you made it this far in the post, it’s for you. Comment WORD.

Writers make finding clients way harder than it needs to be. Your first writing client — or your next one — is already in your life right now. It's your uncle who keeps complaining about how much he's struggling with marketing his small business. It's your neighbor you friended on Facebook six years ago whose ads are just awful. It's your old coworker, your old boss, your old mentor who just started a new company. All of these people need your help. But for some reason, writers convince themselves that landing clients means going out into the world and cold pitching strangers they've never spoken to before. And yeah, that works. But why would you start there? Why wouldn't you do the thing that's 100 times easier first — just ask people you already know if they'd like your help, or if they know someone who does? That's how to find writing clients without making it a whole production. The reality is, writing clients are everywhere. You are surrounded by them right now. You just take these people for granted, so you don't recognize the opportunities even when they're staring you in the face. This is the faulty belief that keeps most writers broke at the start: that clients are hard to find. They're not hard to find. They're just not where you've been looking.

Save these and use them to write your next piece You know people are selfish ... We all are... They only listen to you when THEY have something to gain from it... So here are 10 angles to write from so they listen and buy 🤌🏻 1️⃣ Save time — show them how you give them hours back 2️⃣ Avoid pain — speak to the problem keeping them up at night 3️⃣ Make money — tie your offer to income and they're hooked 4️⃣ Save money — nobody wants to feel like they're overpaying 5️⃣ Feel loved — tap into belonging, connection, and relationships 6️⃣ Gain praise — help them look good in front of others 7️⃣ Get comfort — sell the ease, not just the result 8️⃣ Improve health — energy, longevity, and feeling good sell themselves 9️⃣ Avoid effort — make it stupidly simple and watch conversions spike 🔟 Increase status — people buy who they want to become Your content should make them feel like NOT buying is the mistake. So stop writing about your programs. Start writing about THEIR life without it. 🤌🏻

Most writers think their job is simple. Write a good article. Use good grammar. Make it sound nice. And yes… that matters. But that’s not what businesses are really paying for. Businesses don’t wake up thinking: “Today I need 1,200 beautifully written words.” They’re thinking about something else. They want customers. They want people discovering them online. They want visibility. This is the difference between a $50 writer and a $500 writer. A $50 writer focuses on the words. A $500 writer focuses on the outcome. When you understand SEO and search intent, your writing stops being just content. It becomes something much more valuable. Now your article can: -rank on Google -bring in thousands of readers -attract the right audience -help a business get customers And when your writing does that… You’re no longer “just a writer.” You become someone who helps businesses grow. That’s why writers who understand content + SEO strategy are far more valuable. Because they don’t just write. They help businesses get found. If you’re a writer reading this, learning this skill can completely change how valuable your work is. I created a training that breaks this down step-by-step in a very beginner-friendly way. Comment "CONTENT" and I’ll send you the link to the training. Make sure you’re following so I can send it to you. #day11 #contentwriting #contentstrategy #seo #searchengineoptimization

You know the drill: “$27 to steal my DFY pdf: one ad and you’ll have $$$ in 24 hours.” But you’re not stealing anything. They’re stealing from you. Meanwhile, I teach people how to build $100K writing businesses. Doing that takes closer to 24 months, not 24 hours. And that’s why most will keep scrolling and keep spending $$ on the latest “passive” income hustle. Some tough love: there are no shortcuts. Building a real writing business is a marathon, not a sprint. 8 years ago, I was a nobody with no connections in publishing. Now? -over $100K+/year since 2022 -40+ awards and accolades for my clients -working with millionaire clients -nominated for the industry’s only ghostwriting award -have a NYC agent who lands Big Five deals But I want to help you get there MUCH faster. And without all the mistakes. Stop chasing quick riches. Invest in a real strategy that doesn’t rely on scamming the next person. And if you’re ready to quit running from nowhere to nowhere, make sure you’re following my page for more tips and resources that get real results.

When I was 26, I was calling myself a freelance writer and charging $20 for an 800-word blog post. The moment I started calling myself a ghostwriter, everything changed. $100 an article. Then $200. Then $500. Then $1,000. Then $5,000 — for the same 800-word article. Same age. Same skillset. No awards. No extra decade of experience. I just called myself something different. And I'm telling you, this matters more than most writers realize. Because the moment you call yourself a freelancer, you get seen as a commodity. Easily replaceable. Someone who competes on price. These biases are real. It's the difference between saying "I'm a cashier" and "I'm a concierge." Which one do you want to be? The reality is, how to charge more as a freelance writer has almost nothing to do with your skill level. It has everything to do with how you position yourself. Your title is not just a label. It's a signal to the market about what kind of service you provide and what kind of client you attract. So if you're sitting there wondering why no one wants to pay you what you're worth, start by looking at what you're calling yourself. That one shift alone can 5x your rates. Not in five years. Right now.
