Demis Hassabis started as a chess prodigy when he was just a kid.
But what really hooked him was the idea of "thinking about thinking." He set out to solve intelligence itself.
First he built a hit video game called Theme Park, showing early on how obsessed he was with systems that could learn and react. Then he studied computer science at Cambridge and got a PhD in neuroscience to understand the mind even better.
In 2010 he co-founded DeepMind with the mission to solve intelligence and use it to solve everything else.
Google bought it in 2014 and the breakthroughs kept coming.
AlphaGo beat the world’s best Go player.
AlphaZero learned chess in just four hours.
AlphaFold solved a 50-year biology problem and predicted 200 million protein structures, earning him a Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Today DeepMind helps Google fight tough AI rivals with models like Gemini and Veo. Hassabis believes AGI is just a few years away and could help us cure diseases, live longer, find new energy sources, and even colonize the galaxy.

PEDas Beispiel „AI schlägt Lee Sedol im Brettspiel Go“ ist sicherlich eines der meist strapaziertesten AI-Beispiele. Ich habe davon auch begeistert in meiner Adobe Keynote von 2018 in München gesprochen – Aber es ist tatsächlich aktueller, denn je!
➡️ Denn: AlphaGo (hat aus menschlichen Partien gelernt) hat Lee Sedol 4:1 geschlagen - ok. Das neue AlphaZero hat allerdings nur aus den Spielen mit AlphaGo gelernt – und die damals gefeierte KI damit 100:0 geschlagen.
Was sagt uns das? Wenn AI-Systeme ohne menschlichen Erfahrungsballast lernen, können sie ein noch bessere Lösungsniveau erreichen. Agenten, die miteinander und gegeneinander interagieren, können sich so zu Höchstleistungen leveragen.
Bei retail.ai experimentieren wir auch gerade AI-Agenten, die Verhandlungsgespräche führen. Dabei geht die AI zum Teil überraschende neue Wege und reproduzieren nicht nur gewohnte Verhandlungsrituale.
➡️ Das Learning: Agenten können also ohne menschliches Erfahrungswissen neue Lösungsräume und -qualitäten explorieren –„AI Born“ als neues Lebenselixier!
