TEACH YOUR BABY TO SELF-SOOTHE TO GET LONGER STRETCHES OF SLEEP BY… Consistently soothing them yourself. So what’s the difference between self-soothing and self-settling? Self-settling = a baby waking after a sleep cycle and sending themselves back to sleep. If your baby has ever slept for longer than 2 hours, then they have self-settled! Self-soothing = moving from a state of dysregulation to a state of calm without any external input. Babies are *neurologically incapable* of achieving this (watch video to see why). Most babies will naturally self-settle at some point - this, and self-soothing, are NOT skills that can be taught. If they are not self-settling between sleep cycles (and they’re calling out to you instead), it’s because they NEED something. And they need you to fix it for them! Building true self-regulation comes from consistent co-regulation at a young age. Of course, if your baby is crying out so often during the night it’s becoming unsustainable, there are ways this can be addressed - without sleep training! (We use the term sleep training to mean ANY non-responsive methods) DM us if you’d like help with your baby’s sleep 💌 #holisticsleepcoaching #sleepconsultant #babysleep #attachmentparenting #babysleephelp #babysleepsupport #babysleeptips #sleepcoaching #gentlesleeptraining #selfsettling #selfsoothing

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing all the things and your baby still struggles with sleep, you’re not alone! Sometimes it’s not about how long they’ve been awake… it’s about what kind of tired they are. As a mom of three and a pediatric sleep coach, I get it, baby sleep can feel like a mystery sometimes. Let’s break it down, mama 👇🏻 ✨ Overtired Baby: When babies get too tired, their little bodies release stress hormones (yep, like baby adrenaline!) and it actually makes it harder to settle. 💤 Rigid body or crying that ramps up 💤 Short naps + fussy afterward 💤 Hard to soothe, even with cuddles or rocking 💤 Fighting sleep even though they’re exhausted ✨ Undertired Baby: These babies just haven’t built up enough sleep pressure yet, they’re not quite ready to snooze. 💤 Cat naps that end way too soon 💤 Taking forever to fall asleep 💤 Waking up happy and ready to play (even after 20 minutes) 💤 Chatty, smiley, and full of energy when you thought it was nap time Somewhere between the two is that sweet spot, the “just right” tired that leads to smooth bedtimes and longer stretches of rest for everyone. 💛 I actually created a free Gentle Sleep Teaching Toolkit to help you start building those healthy sleep habits in a simple, judgment-free way. Just comment “SLEEP” below, and I’ll send it your way so you and your little one can start getting the rest you both deserve. 🤍 And if you’re craving real, practical, and totally non-judgy sleep tips, plus a dose of the real motherhood moments, make sure to hit follow. Velcro Baby Sleep Tips! What does this mean!? This is a description that many families will use to describe their baby’s temperament to me.. and these are the types of babies who: ✅Only Sleep With Contact ✅ Only Seem Happy If Someone Is Holding Them ✅ Struggled to Sleep Overall ✅ Seem To Be Very Aware And Have A Hard Time Closing Their Eyes These babies can feel very very hard!! I had One and I completely get how tricky it can be! Everything, including sleep, is very dramatic with a velcro baby because the only time they are happy is when they are cuddled in your arms and this is so tough because 🎤 SLEEP IS SEPARATION … BUT I promise they can sleep better!! Here are my TIPS to help make some sleep shifts if you are feeling trapped! 🚩 FEEDING - Full feeds, effective feeds, this will always be the cornerstone. If your baby is very unsettled and not able to feed well, sleep will be so hard and your baby will need a ton of soothing because they are uncomfortable. 🚩Finding Alternative methods to feeding to sleep - Feeding to sleep may work for some but for many Velcro babies I find that feeding to sleep can be a really tricky sleep association. I find that feeding to sleep can work if you are okay with staying latched the whole time but moving away or rolling away with these babies may not work. If you want to feed to sleep that is fine, of course, but finding other ways to soothe to sleep may be more helpful. 🚩 Wake Windows - Velcro babies don’t often show sleep cues!! Watching the clock is typically needed. BUT at the same time, they may need longer wake windows than average. These babies are wakeful and trend in the lower sleep needs. 🚩Contact NAP - I know that these are hard but priority for most families is the night sleep which means sometimes contact or doing carrier close naps during the day to support the ease for better sleep at night! Do you have a Velcro baby?! What helped you! #babysleeptips #babysleepsupport #babysleepregression #vancouvermom #yvrmoms

✨ Wake Windows 101 ✨ If naps are a daily battle or bedtime feels like a wrestling match, it might be time to look at your little one’s wake windows. These are the stretches of time your baby is awake between naps or before bedtime—and they play a huge role in how well your child sleeps. Too short? Not tired enough. Too long? Overtired meltdown. Get it just right? You’ve struck gold. ✨ From those unpredictable newborn days to structured toddlerhood, wake windows evolve quickly—and understanding them can make sleep SO much smoother for everyone in the home. 💤 📌 Save this for your next nap reset and tag a tired parent who needs this info too! #PediatricianTips #WakeWindows #BabySleepTips #ToddlerSleep #NapsMadeEasy #DrNelliePaeds #MotherhoodUAE #SouthAfricanMom #SleepCues #BabySleepSupport #GentleParenting #AbuDhabiMom #ParentingEducator

Every new parent needs to know this… My “What to expect” series was super popular when I first did it so I thought I’d bring it back. ✨Let’s start with the first 4 weeks after you bring your baby home. Those are some of the most precious days for any parent. But we also don’t know what’s going on and what to expect. ✅Your baby will be sleeping a lot during the day but be sure to wake them up every 2 hours so they can eat. Eating is just as important as sleep, especially if you are trying to help establish your milk supply. ✅Their awake windows will be short and sweet leaving you just enough time for a diaper change, a feed, few minutes of tummy time, and some cuddles. ✅Follow an EAT-PLAY-SLEEP routine from the start but know some babies may need an EAT-PLAY-EAT-SLEEP routine and that’s OKAY! ✅Expose them to the sun as much as possible to help with their day-night confusion. They do not have an internal clock (circadian rhythm) yet so you will have to help them by showing them the difference between day and night. ❤️Lastly, enjoy those cuddles! Contact napping is okay and in fact encouraged. Use a wrap if you need to be hands free. 👉🏼 Comment the word “newborn” below to get the newborn sleep guide sent to your inbox! . . . #newmama #theeverymom #yougotthismama #modernmama #morethanmama #newmom #firsttimemama #momtipsandtricks #raisingbabies #1monthold #1montholdbaby #2weekold #4weekold #postpartummom #thisispostpartum #momswhowork #workingmomstruggles #pregnant #babysleep #sleepbabysleep #babysleepexpert #babysleephelp #babysleeptips #newbornsleep #expectingmama #expectingmom #babyfacts #babysleepsupport #newmomsupport

Navigating baby or toddler sleep can feel like a never-ending puzzle. Some nights are great, others? Total chaos. But if you’ve been stuck in a pattern that just isn’t working, it might be time to make some changes. No judgement, no pressure, just a little nudge that things could feel easier 💙 Here are 5 signs that it’s time to make a change: 🌒 You dread bedtime (every. single. night.) - bedtime feels like a battle, it’s a sign something’s off and you’re getting no evening to decompress, get stuff done or have some quality time with your partner. 🌒 You’re running on empty - Exhaustion is normal sometimes, but if you’re constantly wiped, something needs adjusting. 🌒 Your little one takes forever to fall asleep - Like, longer than the nap actually lasts? Yep, that’s a red flag. Your whole day revolves around naps, or at least attempting naps. 🌒 You’re bouncing, rocking, feeding or contact-napping all night long - Lovely in theory and if it’s working for you, that’s amazing, but not sustainable if you’re breaking inside. 🌒 You feel snappy, emotional or just not yourself - Your well-being matters too. If you’re struggling, that’s reason enough to look at sleep. This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. It just means something’s not working for you. And that’s okay. You’re allowed to want rest. You’re allowed to want your evenings back. You’re allowed to make changes that support everyone in the family. If this hit home, I’m here. No sleep shaming. Just support and realistic steps that actually help 💙 ✨ Save this post if you needed the reminder. You’re doing amazing, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. ✨ #babysleephelp #toddlersleep #babysleepconsultant #sleep #maternalmentalhealth #mummyburnout #tiredmumclub #ukmumlife #babysleepsupport

Your baby’s asleep… on your hair. So you cut it off. 😩✂️ Funny? Yes. Desperate? Also yes. Because when your baby needs you as their sleep crutch — whether it’s your boob, your finger, or your hair — getting them to sleep (and stay asleep) can feel impossible. As moms of two, we’ve been there — running on fumes, dreading bedtime, and feeling stuck in survival mode. What we’ve learned through our own journey (and now help families with every day) is this: When babies learn to fall asleep without relying on any sleep props, they’re able to connect sleep cycles and sleep through the night. That’s because one of the most important parts of teaching babies to sleep independently is helping them build self-soothing skills. We all have them — maybe it’s sleeping on our side, needing the fan on, or listening to music. The difference is: we know how to recreate those conditions ourselves. But babies? If they rely on patting, rocking, feeding, or even playing with your hair to drift off, they’ll need that again and again through the night. It’s never too early or too late to help your little one become a confident sleeper. Every child is unique, and with the right support from our certified baby sleep training consultants, they can learn to fall asleep peacefully — no haircuts needed. ✂️💤 📞 Book your free 20-minute discovery call by commenting “CALL”. #babysleephelp #independentsleep #tiredmom #momhumor #sleepconsultant #selfsoothing #sleeptrainingjourney #babysleepsupport #sleeptraining

Have you got sleep anxiety? It’s something I see all the time in parents all the time and it breaks my heart 💔 Thankfully, I know some ways to ease this kind of anxiety ⬇️ ✨Unfollow any sleep accounts that cause you to feel like you’re doing everything *wrong*. Don’t bring shame and negativity into your world if you can avoid it. ✨ Delete tracking or developmental apps. For the majority of parents, these kind of tracking apps cause more harm than good. ✨ Get outside for fresh air every single day. Nature is so healing and can do wonders for your mental health. ✨ Ask for help. This seems simple but I know asking for help is quite difficult for many people. ✨Seek 1:1 support for whatever it is you’re struggling with whether that is excessive night wakes, bedtime battles, short naps etc. And lastly, ✨ Surround yourself with like-minded parents. A safe circle of friends or family can much a big difference. Just know that you don’t need to suffer through sleep anxiety. More information about this transition here ⬇️ This can feel like a big change, for both you and your little one. The good news is, with a gentle, step-by-step approach, you can make this transition smooth and supportive. Here’s how to make this transition👇🏼 1️⃣ Help your child get comfortable sleeping in their own space while co-sleeping. 👉🏼Before moving your child to the crib, create a little space between you and your child during sleep (ideally 1-2 feet), especially if they’re used to sleeping in your arms or on your chest. This helps your child adjust to sleeping independently while still sleeping in a familiar environment. 2️⃣ Gently transition your child to the crib. 👉🏼Once your child is sleeping well in their own space while co-sleeping, it’s time to move them to the crib.
Start by assisting your child to sleep by rocking or cuddling them to sleep. Once they’ve been asleep for 10 minutes, transfer your child into their crib. 🤍 Hi, I’m Lauren! I use gentle and responsive methods to TEACH sleep skills so you don’t have to wait until your child “grows out” of their sleep habits and you never have to resort to leaving your child to “cry it out”. Last night, I took the plunge into sleep training my 5-month-old, and I’m beyond impressed with how it’s going already! 🌙 I’ve spent weeks prepping – fine-tuning his schedule, getting the routine down, and optimizing his sleep environment – and it paid off. I personally opted for the quicker method of teaching self settling, especially as I've seen him fall asleep independently whilst being in my presence before. I took this decision knowing his personality and temprament. I was absolutely AMAZED - Bedtime was smooth and peaceful, with him settling in just 40 minutes. There were a lot of tears and it was hard to hear but eventually it did taper and I was there to reassure him every step of the way...... But it was a break through moment and massive turning point in the process.... Of course, I had one night wake (I may have forgotten to set my alarm for one of the dream feeds… oops! 😅), but what really blew me away was nap time. I’ve always said naps can be the hardest part, and honestly, I was dreading it. But to my surprise, he self-settled so easily, no fuss at all! 😱 It felt like a dream come true – both naps and bedtime were tear-free!!!!!!! Now, I know it’s still early days, and this could just be a stroke of good luck, but I’m optimistic this could be the beginning of a great sleep routine for him. I’ll be keeping you all posted on how it goes, but so far, so good! If you’re in the trenches with your little one’s sleep struggles and want the same 1:1 support I’ve been using to get things on track, I’d love to help!
